  1. Congratulations on quitting!! It's the absolute best thing you will ever do for yourself and you kid!! This is called "romancing" the cigarette. Your nicotine receptors are dying and crying for anything to get more drugs. For the longest time, you let nicotine dictate when you were happy by the dopamine release that comes in the first drag. (If you remember cigarettes taste awful) now you are probably missing that feeling. This is where the rewards system comes in. Chocolate, sex, exercise will all release the feel good chemicals your brain is craving. Find a reward.that works for you Also, eat small snacks during the day to keep your blood sugar up (this will also help with moodswings from low blood sugar) Just remember! YOU are in control! Those are not cravings, they are memories from when you use to smoke and now you don't; so don't give them any more time to make you crazy. Just say "NOPE! I'm a non-smoker!" And find something else to do to redirect brain activity. Anyway....welcome to the train! There is so much great information here! Read everything you can on nicotine addiction, set your mind to it and just do it!!
  2. Wise words from a battle hardened woman!! (And a beautiful quit to boot)
  3. Selling a "highend" lifestyle https://www.engadget.com/2018/11/14/british-american-tobacco-tastemakers-dunhill-ahead-kent/?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000621 "To survive [tobacco companies] have got to get new smokers, because they're killing globally 6 million people a year," she said. "Those are smokers they need to replace in order to carry on making profits." This sh** makes me so mad...I hate that I wasted so much time and money and life on this crap. I'm sad for those still smoke (especially those that claim they love it). I want to take lies and denial covering their eyes, but I can't....only they can. But! I'm so glad I saw the light! I'm thankful the train is here to keep picking up new passangers that want their freedom back! Wear those quits with pride! 2days, 3 weeks, 6months, it doesn't matter! WE are fighting the good fight! Feel good about that!
  4. Don't want to keep beating the vape horse but this was an exciting article to wake up to!! https://www.engadget.com/2018/11/13/juul-stops-selling-e-cigarette-flavors-social-media-promotions/ And, a little icing on the cake https://www.yahoo.com/news/m/be010206-bc2c-3066-b81c-a328739dfb3b/threat-of-a-looming-ban-on.html

  7. If you had One shot Or one opportunity To seize everything you ever wanted In one moment Would you capture it Or just let it slip? I don't even like Eminem (my husband does) but this song has some powerful lyrics.
  8. Start quitting today and don't quit on your quit. Tomorrow isn't promised for anyone; why let this chance pass you by?? Everyone deserves the freedom and happiness that comes with a solid quit. Please give yourself this gift.
  9. @Linda Thomas you are most definitely a toughie! (A tough lady that is) I love watching you quit! A true inspiration You can't quit and smoke at the same time. It's one or the other. (And one=all) The only true way to quit smoking is to stop putting the dang things in your mouth and then Never! Take! Another! Puff! Education on nicotine addiction builds a firm quit foundation.
  10. Congrats Sslip!! It's been great watching you quit like a pro! You're a star, friend!
  11. 3 months already!! How exciting! I'm glad you feel good after the party! It would be a bummer to ruin a good party with cigarettes...smokers don't know what they are missing! On to freedom, Christa!
  12. Us too, Parsley!! Who cares?! Bring on the rewards!! We did manage to set up college savings for the kids and still had enough in savings that husband could take the month of October off before he started his new job!! Are you bringing MLMR and Weedie to "high" tea?? if so, count. me. in.
  13. Oops...guess I should have posted in the Snow thread?
  14. Oh, yes!! Especially the long ones that I can break off and suck on? It was 50° here until 5pm then it got cold and windy, 6pm snow. Already 3in...so just another Sunday!
  15. Hooray!! It's snowing I love winter! ?
  16. I do not whatsapp but I sent my email to you?
  17. The season changes affect everyone differently so be on the look out for those dark thoughts...when they start creeping in cast them out immediately because they do not deserve your time! Be happy you are not out in the cold tryimg to find the one spot the wind isn't blowing, freezing off you butts and toes!
  18. Lots of great stuff here! @Linda Thomas my mom put that nice wood laminate in her kitchen and liked it so much they put it in both bathrooms at her house; it's very nice!! @Martian5 you're going to have a great anniversary celebration! Congrats on actually saving the money!! @Kdad That's how you reward!! Feeling a little jelly (I must admit!) Good on you guys! I love hearing this! Congratulations to all of us!!
  19. Welcome to the Train Wantsit!! I really hope you do want it because this is the single best thing you could ever do for yourself and the people who love you! Just keep pushing thru these days, every smoking thought just tell it "NOPE! I am a non-smoker now!" And move on...remember your rewards to reinforce the good behavior of not smoking and also that dopamine release we all crave. Good luck on your journey and hope to hear lots of good things from you!
  20. It's always crazy to think of that time in my life. I remember plotting the bomb boxes...I remember spending days at battle station because the small boats that would charge our ship. I remember watching the Marines train in the hanger bay...they were so young. I remember the awful propaganda films about women and children strapped with bombs to deaden our senses to what was going to happen. I remember tracking loaded LCACs to shore and never seeing those young men again. Those guys are my heros...I light my candle for them today.
  21. @RhinoDragon how's it going? Haven't heard much from you since your sos...we're just checking in!!
  22. Congratulations on taking your life back!! I can only echo what everyone else has said so...just here for the party!! Quitting is the best thing you can do for yourself and the people who love you. Find that fire deep inside and grow it with each NOPE! Places like this help keep you on track and are full of everything you need for a solid, educated quit. Your quit is what you put in; so it's really all or nothing.
  23. Hello Merryxmas3...welcome to the train Take a minute to start your own intro post as I see your own quit date was yesterday.
  24. First, I would throw away "I hope" and "not sure"... Negative self talk gives you an out. You have to want this quit for YOU (not a job/money). You have to completely commit for it to work. But, the good news is, quitting is as easy as never putting a cigarette in your mouth. That's it. That's all. As Doreensfree said, educate your self on actual nicotine addiction, and the changes it's made in your mind and body to build a firm quit foundation. Get your snacks/juice and distractions ready and just dive in!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
