Feeling overwhelmed and of course so close to that smoke
c9jane29 replied to Mee's topic in The S.O.S. Board
((Linda Thomas)) I'm glad you are here and still smoke free! Lots of good advice from above...all I would add is change out the bathroom towels for useable (but still pretty) ones so dad can get in there...he needs it. Take her out for new kitchen stuff? Or get them new recliners with like a cooler in between for drinks and a couple tray tables...just sit down guys!! ?I joke only a little because I want you to take a load off your heart. When my daughter got sick, man, I literally hated life..I felt resentment toward my husband because he never had to make that drive and stay at the hospital (usually with at least one of the other kids) I felt angry with the kids but I was really angry with myself but since I had smoked my whole life, all of these emotions were also new to me so I just cried. all. the. time. But, in the middle of the shit, I found me time, Chocolate time, paint my nails when they went to bed time, lavender oil in the bath, youtube videos...just anything. Come here Linda Thomas and I'll load up the glitter gun and chase your ass down the block with it!! -
Congrats Sslip!! You are a great quit friend and I LOVE watching the months pass by for you! Thank you for everything you do here.

Melatonin helps with nicotine withdrawal
c9jane29 replied to Sazerac's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
So, to update on the Melatonin...I guess during my research I didnt fully comprehend that it is an actual hormone, not a supplement. That being said, I've experienced mood swings that are unusual for me ( I had a crying jag over a fairly normal question). Also, this may be TMI but for the sake of research I'm pretty by the book 27day cycle but Aunt Flo showed up yesterday (16 days early) for an 11day cycle. Pretty sure this is from the Melatonin even though I can't find conclusive research about this specifically. 1mg also seems too much for me -
I am sorry for your loss Christa. Be thankful, now you are nicotine free you can feel these emotions you were masking with a cloud of smoke. I say grieve fully, if you still have hurt in your heart from his loss, pray it out and cleanse your soul. Then, set up an area (not an altar per say) that has his picture or what have you and in that area only, use a specific smell of candle or incense to create a new smell memory. Maybe put a bowl of hard candy there also so you begin to associate him with the quit instead of the smoke. Sending some healing thoughts to everyone on this thread!

-
Hey now! Are you making lemonade?... Take a step back from your situation, make a list, go to the bathroom and cry...its okay...the emotions are strong in the early quit. You just have to ride that roller coaster. Please just dont smoke.

Congrats Linda Thomas! Party time!

Melatonin helps with nicotine withdrawal
c9jane29 replied to Sazerac's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
I picked some up yesterday, and used it for the first time last night. I haven't slept well in years (since the military and having babies) Slept from midnight to 4am like a champ!! Tried to stay in bed but felt rested enough to get up at 5...but I don't feel spaced out like i took "drugs" either. (I dont know if this is an added benefit but my ear wasn't ringing this morning...I stood on the porch and watched the sun rise and could actually hear birds and crickets!) -
Good Job P!! Glitter gun this place up! because its party time!!! I'm gonna tell you to keep rewarding yourself the first months to reinforce nonsmoking behavior but also to help your brain produce and clean up dopamine on its own again. And, because it feels SO DAMN GOOD!

Do craves pop up when actors light up?
c9jane29 replied to Lust4Life's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
No way!...I'm glad i can't smell their stinky butts either! -
"which begins with the awareness that life will sometimes bring you hard moments and obstacles. I believe things are designed that way for a good reason. Life is not meant to be easy. It's by our struggles to succeed against adversity that we define our characters and become strong men and women. It's by staying with whatever pain and difficulty life brings us that we heal, and solve our problems — not by running away like cowards. So when the painful moments come, like so many adults do, don't make the mistake of altering your mood and avoiding the problem at hand by using cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs. People who continue to use tobacco are avoiding the pain of nicotine withdrawal." There is power in this article!

Thank you for sharing such a personal moment Niecie! To me, this is when a quit is made...forged in the fire. I hope you keep the power and passion of this day close to you to help remember how strong you really are.

The urge to smoke is taking over. Please help
c9jane29 replied to Daisywheels's topic in The S.O.S. Board
I hope you made it through Daisywheels...there is no crave, no drag, no smoke that is worth you. I pray you strength of mind today. Please know that we all have to crawl through out own personal river of quit sh*t before we come out the other side. Dirty, humbled but free! Smoking is not an option today! -
Just checking in on you Christa! I hope you smoking thoughts have quietened down today! Sometimes, I would just yell out "Im so glad I quit smoking!" when in a situation I would have normally chose to smoke instead of deal with. I'm all for positive reinforcement! Take some time for you today, give your baby quit some love and attention. (It's now as much of a part of your life as smoking was.) I hope you have a good smoke free day today!!
-
Hi Daisywheels! I hope you are having a good, smoke free day! Please, do not be doubtful of quitting! Having the right mindset is key in maintaining your quit...the day you quit, you are a non-smoker! How wonderful! Please take time in your early quit to educate yourself about nicotine addiction, and the changes it has made in you mind and body. Learn about dopamine, blood sugar and how those things play a part in your "cravings" and mood swings. For me, an educated quit was the best way...I didn't want to hear that "it's normal" or "it will pass". I wanted to know why, why, why! Now that I know why, I hate smoking and embarrassed I let my junkie brain take advantage for so long. This your second chance, please don't let it pass you by because you're doubtful in this moment...the rewards of quitting never stop giving...smoking only takes.

I was wondering about you Linda Thomas!! I must admit, I'm terribly jealous of your weekend! Glad you didn't smoke too!
-
Congratulations on getting thru day 2! Next thing you know, it will be day 322!
-
Glad you are feeling good!! You should feel good...14 hours is a right start. We all had to get thru day one to get to where we are today! Just be kind to yourself!
-
It really is mind over matter. The best piece of advice I got in my early quit was "The only way to quit smoking is to stop putting cigarettes in your mouth." And, I was like, "Whaaaaa?? This guy is a genius!!" That was my "duh" moment. Quitting, in my opinion was alot easier than I expected...we are brainwashed as soon as we start smoking about how hard it is to quit, harder than heroin! they say. But, in truth, it the user. How bad do you want it? Can you commit? You can white knucle hate quit because you feel like you have to, OR you can grow yourself with a life-changing educated quit. It's really IS what you make it! (One other thing, mom to mom, is you do everything for everyone else all day everyday...this quit is one thing that can selfishly be only for you. Have your chocolate stash places that no one knows about, hide in the room and paint your toenails, take over the family tv for a quick workout video...take time to celebrate you just because you're awesome!) Now, mago margaritas to celebrate!!
