Oh yes, sometimes a nasty crave hits hard. Keep in mind it only lasts a couple moments. Maube three minutes out of the day, if that. That means the nicobitch is not pestering for the other 1437 minutes in a day.

People who died or got ill because of smoking
JB 883 replied to lml's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
I imagine for someone who is on their death bed from a smoking related problem or even just in really bad shape - They probably never fathomed it could happen. Back when they were kids experimenting with cigarettes. But as far as illness and death - About 1984 or 85, my step dad had some kind of illness from smoking. I remember breakfast one Sunday when my dad was sitting there wheezing. My step mom was insisting he go to the doctor, he argued but finally gave in. Doctor told him that if he kept smoking, he would not leave the hospital alive next time. 33 years later, he is still around and still keeping the quit. Also close to the same time, maybe a couple years before, one of my step dad's co-workers lived in our neighborhood, the same building in fact. When I was real little, i would go over and visit him and his wife. They were about mid-50's maybe. The husband, Bill, died of lung cancer from smoking. I remember my dad showing me the article in the company news letter. Of course my dad preached about the dangers of smoking. Another death was late 1980's when my dentist died of some kind of smoking cause. In both those cases, it just seemed like it was almost overnight. I guess Bill would be passed away at this point regardless but I kind of miss him and his wife. They were "cool" grown-ups who were not going to bitch at me or treat me like an unwanted step child. lml, it is unclear if you relapsed or not but if so, you NEED to quit. There are people in your life that want you to be around for a longer time than what a smoker might last. Smoking just robs us of everything. Even non-smokers sometimes have to suffer because of a smoker's habit. -
lml you didnt take it back up did you? I mean cause like "hit close to home" Also for Sunny - I just read one of your blog entries and it mentions your husband smokes. Any chance you could get him to quit? I know you thought that already. The thing is that it is harder to stop or even maintain a "quit" when there is strong temptation. And just think - having real-life support would be way more effective than just being on a website. Yeah forums can be good but have limits.

I enjoyed it. I had no thoughts of quitting. No one actually died from this. Basically hanging onto a smoking habit just got to be a pain in the butt. The greedy feds keep raising taxes in them, and making rollies, while cheap, is a PITA. It was messy, extra cleaning, made everything stink. It just got to a point where it wasn't worth the hassles. I do not like being inconvenienced. More trouble than it was worth.

The perplexing pull to the tobacco shop
JB 883 replied to Giveintowin's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
Oh yeah, we all have moments where we think "just one" but as long as we do not give in. See. if you HAD given in to "just one", right now you would be going nuts wanting "just one more". But you are not. So, all is well. -
I am a bit surprised. We have plenty who join this board and are quitting but then they don't last even three days. You made it like 26 days according to the ticker thingy. Ok so you have to start over but think of this - you avoided at least the 500+ cancer sticks in that time. So it is like this - maybe you smoked yesterday. HOPEFULLY you are reading this thread before lighting up again. Right now than is the time to say, "Ok, f*** the cigarette, I had a bad moment but NO MORE." You can do this. You have GOT to quit those god damn cigarettes. You know you can do this and so do the rest of us here.

reci - yes i did quit seven months ago. But I saw this video and decided to start again just so i could be inspired to quit again. Just look at the guy in the video - he went from pretty boy to mild hipster in nine months. Amazing effects of quitting! I wonder what effect quitting has on women? But for the gents - After three years of quitting smoking, one can look like this. Keep the quit you sexy b*****ds.
-
That is inspirational. I am going to stop smoking today.

I also used to think cleaning took all day
JB 883 replied to lml's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
NOPE is an expression some smokers use to mean "Not one puff ever". It is about not smoking again. The expression you want is "Oh hell no". That is when someone wants you to clean their house. -
Funny this thread came up, I started a similar one on another forum about the "vintage" electronic goods that are broken yet priced like they are brand new. So about 75% of the "vintage" electronics on ebay. But aboit hair care - For the most part, expensive hair products are a ripoff. You are correct. Yeah they might smell good and are endorsed by some guy with a fancy accent but they are not going to change the texture of your hair. The texture of your hair is genetic. The main ingredient in expensive shampoo/conditioner is snake oil. I have tried several expensive ones myself but they worked no better than El Cheapo brands. To be honest, the best shampoo I have tried is tres-emme, like $4 for a quart size bottle at Wal-fart. Suave shampoo sucks but they have this $3 small bottle of leave-in conditioner that is awesome. Use like 1/2 a dime-size bit, get your hands a little wet, rub them together, then work it through your hair. One bottle lasts a few months even with daily use. I do not know the brand you got, I assume Arbonne or Wen? Yes they are ungodly expensive. If they are so super great though, how come they are not even sold in stores? If you want to be Jennifer Aniston, probably flat-ironing your hair after wash (after it is dry) is the best bet. An even BETTER bet is find a style that works best with one's hair texture. Thick and coarse is easier to care for when it is shorter.

Now I want to quit sugar and caffeine, too.
JB 883 replied to Ren's topic in Exercising & Healthy Living
If there is some apocalypse, we would have a lot bigger problems than whether or not we could gt our caffeine and sugar fix. Alex Jones aside... Maybe cut back but completely depriving yourself of those two things also will be hell. What made smoking an easier habit to quit is that it is really vile, expensive, and it is nearly a crime to light up anymore. If you do this, do so slowly. Some people get on this health kick after quitting tobacco. They decide to go to the gym, walk to work, eat healthy, finishing their degree, stay away from anything bad. The problem is they do all this at once. And it works for a little while. But then the motivation wears off and they go back to everything bad. Drinking, smoking, drugs, bad food, being a slouch... They soon find out that depriving yourself of fun things and exercise just are not natural, otherwise everyone would do it. For me, yes I am hooked on sugar something horrid. I ain't about to give that up. No desire to quit that one. -
I also used to think cleaning took all day
JB 883 replied to lml's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
I do not believe there is a correlation between cleaning and smoking. My room mate has never done either one in her entire life. -
about 6400 from me. Holy crap that is a lot of cancer sticks.

No need to feel guilt. She can make her own choices being 18. But more important - kids are going to experiment. That happens whether the parents do a habit or not. Of course stay on top of things but i just do not see her taking up the habit at this point. Most smokers start before they are 18. However, if she DOES start smoking, it will be time for mom to start beating some serious ass. Though - what kind of "friend" does she have that keeps trying to offer cigarettes?
-
Of course they keep changing the name of it. I think "Juuling" is the latest thing. Anyways, all these things saying it is safer than tobacco or that it isn't harmful at all. Didn't they say all this about cigarettes at one point? The more respectful of us nicotine users at least accepted the fact that it is not healthy. When i started, i knew damn well it wasn't a good idea. I have no real clue why i started other than being curious about different tobaccos. Has anyone honestly said, "This must be alright" after taking their very first puff of a cigarette and having their lungs literally flinch? Remember THAT incident? And get this - On some videos these kids claim it is cool to use vape. Do what? I remember in school a lot of the bad kids smoked but I do not remember anyone being considered "not cool" if they didn't smoke. Some teenagers back then even said they wish they had not started. And besides - vaping is just kind of douchebaggy. Kind of like driving a Toyota Prius but not AS bad. Yeah I know bitching doesn't help. I just hate smoke/vape/smokeless/NRT/whatever with this weird passion. They act like it is safe but just look at the damage it causes. Every time vape comes up on the web, they act like it is some f******g God-send so people can safely use that nasty nicotine. Pisses me off. Like I sometimes mention, if i had to sum up why I quit in one breath - I got pissed off at the cigarettes. I wish everyone felt the same hate towards nicotine in all forms. But no, some GOTTA have that crap. Cut it out, tell the nicodemon to f*** off.

What do YOU love about being smoke free ???
JB 883 replied to Doreensfree's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
I hate everything about being smoke free. -
There does come a point where it is like, "I am tired of this, tired of the coughing, wasting money, feeling like crap, smelling horrid, burning holes in my clothes, getting lectures, etc. Quitting cold turkey can be done. I assume that is what you mean by "no replacements"? If you do cave in though, the next step is to try to examine what caused you to give in and then use that to start a more solid quit. It sounds though like you are truly ready so you should not have any problems hanging onto the Quit. We have all heard those commercials that talk about failure rates for those going cold turkey. Or how nicotine is the hardest drug to quit. Hardly the truth. That is partially to blame for any worry or self doubt in the beginning. "They" want you to think this cannot be done so you will buy their useless products. EDIT - To kind of expand on what Sslip said - Once you make it a solid 24 hours without smoking, even ONE day, you have then proven to yourself that you CAN go, voluntarily without smoking. Then you know it can be done. You will have something to build on.
-
That is the second best part of quitting smoking. The VERY best part is that Reciprocity hired in that sexy male stripper dancing, the one in the OP. Getting to watch that would motivate anyone to not pick up another smoke.

If uggs and crocs were to have a baby, this is what it would look like. Now folks, here we have socks with sandals. But not white or black socks, but the worst shade of green. The only people allowed to wear that shade of green ANYthing are in the military. That guy could not get laid in a women's prison wearing GREEN socks with sandals.
-
Dead baby one? Not sure what that looked like (prolly no need to post it) but would that even be legal? Since America seems to have a hard-on about getting people to quit, I wonder why our smokes have normal packages? Even the warning about health effects is just on the side of the pack where people don;t look anyways. It was also one of the things that drove me to quit. Not the photos but trying to skirt whatever inconveniences. At one point i thought about supplementing my smoking with smokeless tobacco for times I could not have a cigarette. Then I thought, "Am I THAT hooked? So hooked to want to use smokeless so my precious addiction is fed?" I never actually did pick up smokeless though. I have used it before and it is just vile. I felt like a dumb ass and realized, "I need to drop this habit, this is bullcrap."

transcript of a smoker's rights activist leader...
JB 883 posted a topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
*Ms. Smith does not exist. Just something i thought up. Or if she did, she probably died of lung cancer. Host - Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Ms. Smith who will be giving a speech about smoker's rights. (applauding and coughing from audience) Ms. Smith - Thank you. So first i would like to say (COOOUUUUGH cough cough choke cackle hack!) And also (COUGHCOUGHCOUGH choke hack cackle hackhackhack hawk) Excuse me I just (HHAAAAAAACK! WHEEZE Gargle cough ) need another cigarette (coughcough hack choke crack wheeze coughcough)... So anyways, I do not know about you all but i certainly feel enlightened. I learned something. You know, my last few months of smoking i sounded like this when trying to laugh or whatever. I learned to put down the stupid ass cigarettes that were preventing me from expressing my favorite emotional reaction - laughter. You know, even if putting down the cancer sticks do NOT have these benefits - Save us money, make us smell better, relieve us from having to hear dumb lectures, keep us from having to go to the smoker section, decrease chances of lung cancer, preserve our clothing by not burning holes in it... There is that whole thing even this board forgets about - We don't cough and choke like an obnoxious ass. I can scream with laughter again and not cough. Coughing is what non-smokers do to mock smokers. Who among us wants to be mocked? On another note - Sunday morning I went out walking while listening to my horrid 80's pop songs. I was about 1/2 a block from a church and some guy was out standing by his car smoking. I could smell it. Holy crap, I mean 1/2 a block away! My main feeling towards tobacco and smoking is this - pure hatred. I do not hate smokers but just the habit. It smells, it pisses me off. I laugh when I imagine the nicodemon starving and begging for nicotine. I smell someone smoking and it is like, "cut it out!" Gotta have that stupid precious cigarette don't they? Might not die soon enough as it is. Smoke ANOTHER cancer stick. Yep, what's one more nail in the coffin? It won't stink THAT bad. Eh hem. So yeah, I hate tobacco. but anyways, what did you take from Ms. Smith's speech?- 1 reply

One thing that sets bad with me is hearing or reading stories about people my age (early 40's) who died of this shit. It made me think, "Damn, when will I end up getting killed from tobacco?" But for anti-smoking ads - I think this one would motivate. Old cougar looking woman with a hole in her throat. There is not suppose to be a hole there.

At least also we get to get the worst of it over right away.

No, foot wear from walmart is neither stylish nor reliable. Bakon, here is a joke you might appreciate. When talking about birth control, one might say, "... of course the only birth control that is 100% effective is wearing crocs". I have a few wedges like pictured. Not sure if they are fancy but real comfy at least. My confession - oh my gyod if i could find a male friend who could not bare the thought of my feet hurting...
