  2. Good list there Sparky. There's enough motivation there to keep you smoke free for a lifetime. It's hard to put into words the "I will" statement that sums up my resolution to remain smoke free. I guess I'd simply say that quitting smoking is the one behavioral change I've made in my life that's turned a miserable, unhealthy situation into a triumphant and contented life. So, I will never go backwards.
  3. Well done Sparky. You should go to the Daily NOPE section and vow not to smoke today with the simple word "NOPE".
  4. Haven't checked in for a week or so. Missed your big day. It may not be smooth sailing all the time, but at 4 months you've built a solid foundation for a lifelong quit. Congratulations Linda! Proud of you.
  5. Awesome Martian. Great job!
  6. Everyone here is being very kind and supportive of you blur. I hope that works for you. I happen to think you need a little more of a kick in the tush if you've used the forum before and this is your 100th time quitting. Well no wonder you've failed 100 times. You have "awful cravings" that are hard to "resist". No one here could possibly understand how difficult it is for you. Now for a reality check. Quitting is not easy. You may have countless cravings for a long period of time. Cravings, however, are not the end of the world (whereas cancer, COPD, and heart disease often are). Millions of other people, including thousands on this website, have quit. We are not special. We quit despite cravings, unpleasantness, irritability, etc. It takes uncompromising commitment and a willingness to learn about addiction for a successful quit. It also helps to have a place to get and give support. But first and foremost, it takes your 100% dedication. Hope you don't see this as an attack, but rather a new approach. It wasn't 'til I got tough on myself that I was successful.
  7. Real proud of you Jo. It wasn't easy but you're one tough Aussie chick. Enjoy the rewards of being one YEAR smoke free.
  8. Thanks everyone. I appreciate the kind words. Glad to be 3 years removed from the bondage of smoking. Also glad to be part of a community that offers so much to people who want to quit this terrible addiction.

  15. Congratulations Tammy. Those months are piling up now.
  16. Congratulations Joe. It's great that you have grandchildren who will never know you as a smoker. That's an amazing impact.
  17. Sending heartfelt condolences to you and your family Kate. Please quit ASAP. Each year, over 6 million* other people are experiencing this grief as a result of death from direct tobacco use. * World Health Organization
  18. I know there is a split on this forum about regulating cigarettes. With that in mind, I'll leave it up to each individual to decide if this is overdue or over-reach. The Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday that it will seek a ban on the sale of menthol-flavored cigarettes. The announcement came as the agency officially released a detailed plan to also restrict the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes. It also wants to ban flavored cigars. In a statement, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb says the moves are aimed at fighting smoking among young people. Flavored e-cigarettes, menthol-flavored tobacco cigarettes and flavored cigars are all popular among teenagers. "Today, I'm pursuing actions aimed at addressing the disturbing trend of youth nicotine use and continuing to advance the historic declines we've achieved in recent years in the rates of combustible cigarette use among kids," Gottlieb says. While cigarette smoking has hit a record low in the United States, vaping has been skyrocketing. That trend has raised concerns that a new generation of young people will become addicted to nicotine. Gottlieb says the moves were prompted by new data showing a 78 percent increase in e-cigarette use among high school students and a 48 percent increase among middle school students, from 2017 to 2018. "These data shock my conscience," Gottlieb says. The ban on menthol, in particular, has been long sought by public health authorities and antismoking advocates. The concern is that the flavoring masks the harshness of tobacco smoke, making it easier for people to start smoking. "I believe these menthol-flavored products represent one of the most common and pernicious routes by which kids initiate on combustible cigarettes," Gottlieb says. Menthol cigarettes are especially popular among African-Americans, leading some to charge that tobacco companies have been using the flavoring to target minorities.
