    Hi Jess, welcome! :)
  2. See the quote above from Robert Frost. I found this interesting and appropriate to this discussion http://mirthandmotivation.com/2011/12/04/inspiration-the-best-way-out-is-always-through/

  5. Rowly, hi. Some thoughts. Stop giving yourself permission to smoke in the beginning when you are going through withdrawal. I don't know of any good tricks other than for you to use all of your strength to hold out when the waves come. Colleen used to have a tag on her signature that said something like the only way to the other side is through. To me in this context, it means going through the baptism of horror for a few weeks and then trudging on day by day, week by week, until the urges pretty much go away and you are past it. The urges for me have gone away for the most part. I am pretty fat but whatever. And everyday you should take steps for your quit. Post here. Read your Allen Carr. Exercise. Deep breath. Eat candy. Wean yourself off the gum when ready. Annoy your friends by talking obsessively about your quit. Watch stop smoking videos and meditation on youtube. Etc.

  11. Stu, go for it. I have had for the last 10 years convertible sports cars (three models) with a v8 engine. I started driving these when I decided that if I worked a demanding job, and I had no children, I should drive a great car. :) I love zipping around the other cars if I feel like going fast....,I think I am ready now for a more sedate sedan but it has been fun.

  14. What worked for me was after reading, I realized deep in my heart that I smoked because I was adficted to nicotine. Not because it helped me, relaxed me, or added to anything. There is no reason to smoke once you break free from the addiction.
  15. ;) no spam.

  20. Hi Sharon. You are in my thoughts as well. Pop by when you can.
  21. Ross, woooohooo! Congratulations on your one year of freedom! Here is your chair by the pool and swim with me to the pool bar. Here is your drink and there are steaks and shrimp on the grill! It has been my privilege to hang out with you on these boards Action and people have really benefitted from your help. I hope you are celebrating right now as you worked for it! Beacon is happy for Action! Meow! Cats don't smoke. It's bad for their fur.
  22. Two threads for Marti as she is awesome!
  23. Marti, congratulations! :) you are doing great!
  24. Nope! I am soooo happy for my friend Ross today! I will be back later to celebrate :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
