  1. I sincerely hope you can take this unwelcome news about your health and turn it into something positive for yourself Evelyn. As babs said, you MUST absolutely do this now to prevent further damage. The choice, as always, is yours and yours alone. Hopefully this will be motivation enough to allow you to fight this addiction successfully. We are all here to support you but as you know; YOU have to do the actual hard work. Stay strong my friend and watch any and all of those Joel videos as often as you can. They will help reinforce the fact that smoking does nothing good for you, only bad things.
  2. Yes, I hadn't thought of that but it's true. So much less clutter to carry around all the time. Early in my quit I recall a few times when gathering my stuff to go out somewhere, I would find myself checking a pocket to make sure I had my smokes then remembering ..... oh yeah, I don't smoke now :)
  3. Congratulations Feely! You had to do the tough 1st week all over again but I think you really nailed it this time. Stay strong girl and get this thing done!
  4. Congratulations CP1973! The hardest month is now finished. Well done girl. Don't forget to treat yourself to something nice because you've earned it. Keep your guard up as you move forward and we'll see you at the 2 month mark :)
  5. ^^^ This is the truth. Everyone finds out, most the hard way, that you can not have just one every now and then. Sooner or later you will be smoking the same volume you originally smoked - or more even. This is not something a smoker can control for any length of time. You either smoke, or you don't smoke. There's no in between.
  6. Actually, your 4 month anniversary was yesterday John so a slightly belated congratulations on keeping your quit going strong. I'm sure it's getting a little easier all the time and you are enjoying the many benefits of your quit by now. Keep up the good work :)

  13. LOL - that's great. 11/22 for both of you - nice :) Yes, this is a very important message for newbies (and I consider myself to be one still). I had a particularly difficult time saving my quit about 1.5 months in and learned this lesson first hand by just not giving in but it was very tempting and very close. All because, like Pearlie said, smoking through emotional situations for so many years we don't really know how to handle them without smoking once we quit. We all know those situations will still be there whether we smoke or not, it's just hard to adjust at first. Once you do adjust though, you learn that it is possible to deal with these things and not smoke. Yes, the way it always was before we started smoking - go figure!
  14. Yes you did. Big congratulations on that :) I guess you obviously don't even think about smoking much anymore since you didn't realize it was your anniversary? Us newbies count every minute basically - lol. Don't forget to treat yourself to something nice. 4 years is huge :)

Just keep in mind why you quit in the first place and all the successful hard work you've done to this point. Smoking never did one good thing for you so kick it out of your life for good - we're cheering for you :D

  18. You've received great advice from these other fine people so I can't really add much else. Yes, quitting is hard. Very hard in the early days but it will get easier to manage. It's a slow process so you just have to have faith that it will happen for you, as it does for all of us. The most important part is, do not smoke. Not even one puff. There's just no other way to beat this thing.
