  3. There are so many small benefits to quitting that we don't even think about until we are well along in our quit process. Great that you are focusing on the positives Those positives just keep multiplying along the way too!

  7. The cost (financially) to smoke these days is crazy! How can people in Australia even afford to smoke?

  10. Sorry you're not sleeping well. It's not unusual in the early days of your quit. Have you eliminated caffeine from your diet? If not try that, it may help. Drink fruit juice too, It helps with your blood sugar levels which may help your sleep pattern. In any case, the sleep issue won;t last forever. Quitting smoking is worth dealing with some temporary inconveniences

  12. 8 Months smoke free is fantastic Kermit! Be sure to celebrate your achievement
  13. Be patient LT You're not quite a month into your quit yet so those cravings and urges to smoke are normal and you found a way to say NO to them today as you have in the past and will again when they come calling. The thing is, they will come calling less frequently and those calls will get weaker and weaker as you forge ahead. Doing great so just keep it up and always say NOPE!

  17. I remember starting to smoke when I was 17 with a friend of mine. We both started because it was the cool thing to do I guess. We were also going to run away from home together and go to Florida and live under a pier by the ocean. (That never happened of course)! But we both became addicted together when still in high school. I blame no one but myself for getting hooked. I know big tobacco has had some pretty aggressive marketing tactics going on but we all wanted to smoke for other reasons regardless of what big tobacco was telling us. It's much better now for the younger people coming along because society in general looks down on smoking almost everywhere. That's a huge factor I think.

  23. Hi Kdad! Great move to quit this horrible addiction. Your personal commitment to yourself is what will carry you through the tough early days when that addiction is screaming to be fed. Stay strong and just know that each battle you fight and win against this addiction makes you stronger and the addiction weaker. You too can break free of this addiction if you want it bad enough. Just remember N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever)
  24. Hi Nik and welcome to Quit Train! You have received a lot of great advice already so I won't repeat it. From your description of reasons for quitting, breaking free from the slavery of being a nicotine addict sounds like it's a big one for you. Doing crazy things you wouldn't normally do just to feed your addiction is common for all of us. I have found the freedom from this after I quit to be the most enjoyable benefit. No longer have to worry about all that crazy stuff Join us quitters and break free!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
