  2. Welcome Jack ^^^ You heard it from a guy who was just like you a year ago (Martian5) - embarking on his quit after a lifetime of smoking and he did it! We all did it. It is possible by making an unwavering commitment to yourself, educating yourself about this addiction and with the constant support of other quitters like us who have gone through the same process. That is the formula to quitting but, the load is on your shoulders to do the heavy lifting. We can't do that for you but, we have all done it for ourselves and we are no stronger or smarter than you so ........ get on board and let's get your permanent quit underway! Read all you can here. There's a lot of great information about nicotine addiction that will help you outsmart the nicodemon when he comes calling; trying to convince you to give it up and smoke again. Don't listen - it's all lies!
  3. 2 weeks is great and yes, you HAVE to go on for 3 now because well ...... why not? You must be seeing some benefits to being a non-smoker by now right? Sure; you still have work to do but you already have so much invested it would be a travesty to give that all up now! Keep going because it will keep getting easier and easier even though you may not truly believe that right now - it will!
  4. I don't know if any of us have a responsibility to anyone other than ourselves; once we make that commitment to quit. We end up helping others just by participating here whether we know it or not. You are also doing this now. Also, don't forget to think about the 14 days (and counting) of hard work you have put in to date next time you start romancing the cigarette and your smoking past history because .... it IS past history now. You can't afford to make it your current situation again .... trust me on that one. You have already made your choice and that is the best choice you can possibly make for yourself - you're smoke-free!

  9. Fore! Boxing Day = the day my wife gets to go spend all my savings on cigarette purchases! (to those in the U.S.; Boxing Day is like your Black Friday at least it is here in Canada)
  10. Congrats Raidermom! 1st month is the hardest and now that's behind you. Well done! Celebrate your victory and carry on building your permanent quit

  13. I had a similar issue for years and the toxic person was a sister who wanted nothing more than to drag everyone down to her level of misery in life. It was almost impossible to get off the phone with her without being simply rude and hanging up. When it comes to family dynamics, it's not always so black and white as just cutting someone out of your life. In my case the issue resolved itself when she died.

  15. I'm happy you took the time to reason things out properly Kate because that's very important! Our minds play tricks on us when there's an addiction involved. Our mind suggests relief from our struggle will be the reward if we give in and light up but that is just a lie. The truth is, we will be back in chains again, a slave to this addiction that brings nothing but misery and even death. Many have come to this realization too late - AFTER they went and bough that pack and lit one up! Stay strong because you are really doing a great job and this post proves you know how to rationalize the pros and cons of smoking. That's a very useful tool to have at your disposal going forward!
  16. Yes the running around and the dinners with family/friends is all a bit much to be squeezed into a few days but I think I would miss it if it were suddenly not there anymore. My stomach does need a rest from all this decadent food though. I've been, well ...... Pigging out!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
