Welcome to Quit Train Kat Glad you are wanting to get serious about this quitting thing because your future health and wealth will depend on your quitting and staying quit. You are wise to start while you are still young too! Reshaping your life to exclude smoking does take effort and time, a lot of time actually because so many things in our daily life revolved around having that smoke. Especially when you are bored or tired. How you fill that gap is really up to you and what ever your lifestyle will allow. Keeping yourself busy and distracted is important though in the early stages of your quit. There's tons you can do to occupy yourself at little or no cost. Go for a walk, huddle in your apartment and watch some TV or movies. Come here and play some of the mindless games on the game page. Take up a new hobby maybe? Is there anything you's always wanted to do but just haven't done it yet? Get creative in how you can use your time and be sure to reward yourself for each hurdle you get over. Rewards are important. Stick around here too for support from other quitters. We've all been exactly where you are right now so you are NOT alone in this. Post a lot here too. It really does help you to communicate with other quitters. It will also hep to keep your commitment strong too

Not as many as you'd think

Actually, in Canada they don't. "Walmart, as well as all grocery stores. stopped selling cigarettes across Canada when Ontario's ban on pharmacy sales came into effect in 1994." You can not buy cigarettes in any store that either is a pharmacy or contains a pharmacy and many grocery stores in Canada have a small pharmacy section in them. I believe pharmacies are called "chemists" in some countries. Basically, convenience stores either contained within a gas station or stand alone stores are were people can buy cigarettes in Canada. There is the odd specialty smoke shop but not many.

The smart thermostats are pretty cool actually, once you get the hang of them. We have an Ecobee and the possible setting are endless pretty much. It also reads humidity, tells you what the weather outside is doing (rain, sun, snowing etc.). I like it. Can't say whether it saves us and $$ but it's neat to play around with it

I bet your friend will not forget that encounter - lol Good for you in facing that and winning! Shows your commitment is strong and you are on solid ground. And you're right. Being around a group of others with the same commitment as you and who have experienced the same stuff as you are now going through is a powerful tool. That will become even more important down the road as many around you may start taking it for granted that your quit is done and in the past when in reality, you will still have work to do in crafting your new smoke free life. I would definitely post up in the 1 year pledge. You know there are different seasonal triggers that come up with the changing of the seasons. Those can present new challenges you haven't had to deal with yet. That's what makes the 1 year celebration (the Lido party) such a big deal. Doesn't mean you are completely done building your life long quit but it does mean you have likely seen all the triggers you will need to deal with.

You are doing the right thing Vivianne! Avoiding friends that would give you a cig would be pushing it at this early stage. You can and will face that situation later once your quit is stronger and you are making it that way daily now by adhering to NOPE! Trust in the process and stick with NOPE. You will never regret it, that's for sure!

Don't think I have ever seen any Purge movies?
-
I love those saw movies I also liked the Final Destination movies! Not sure why I'm not getting any cool movies here lately. Think it's the provider I have. We get noting of interest any more unless we pay up big time. Mostly "reality shows"; ha, reality .... right!

Question for the North Americans (Canada or USA)
Reciprocity replied to notsmokinjo's topic in Socializing
No you don't have to but you will get ripped on the exchange rate by some vendors if you hand over US $$. I would have Canadian on hand if using cash money. Credit card well ... the bank behind it will handle the exchange and take a small piece. US $$ are accepted everywhere in Canada. It's just the exchange rate you will get that is the issue. Right now you should be getting minimum $1.30 Canadian for a Greenback. Any less, you're getting hosed! -
Wow .... Dodgers gone too now! Very strange night. Astros face their game 5 challenge later today.
