  1. Hi Amierouge and welcome to quit train! Congratulations on being nearly 2 weeks smoke free! That's a great start to your forever quit. Everything you are experiencing is normal. It is tough in the early days of quitting, even the the assistance of NRT products. Like all of us, you are a nicotine addict and have built an extensive habit of smoking with almost everything you do each day for years. That takes a while to readjust to once you quit. Filling those moment when you used to smoke with some other activity or thoughts just takes time to become comfortable with. It WILL happen though. The key is to stick with your quit. The longer you do, the easier all of it will get to be. You will receive a lot of support here and there's a ton of information about smoking and nicotine addiction so please use all of it. Knowledge is power!
  2. Yes they do stop but it takes time and an absolute commitment not to smoke again. Fighting through the early days of your quit will not kill you. Relapsing just might. That's the stark reality of smoking and why we all need to quit and stay quit. You CAN do it, just like those of us who've traveled the same path before you. We were no different - we also had to go through it, not around it.
  3. These early days are SO important. Please do NOT light up a smoke. It just stars the addiction cycle all over again and you have been fighting so hard to break it. What is your freedom worth? Certainly a short while of challenge. Stay the course and don't relapse Guttie. We've all faced it and it DOES get better as long as you don't give in.
  4. False - only lifeboat drills at the beginning of each pleasure cruise TNP would prefer ham or roast beef over turkey for Thanksgiving dinner?
  5. You're up Jo!! I can trip over a doorstep let alone trying to get over something way up in the air (-10 in spelling in grade 8 They started at 100 and took marks off for mistakes made. Clearly I was not a good speller! In my own defense, there was one person worse than me at -40 )

  7. That first week is critical to get through so a huge congrats is in order! You will not face greater challenges than in that first week. Feel proud in the knowledge that you have done that first week so nothing can stop you now!
  8. I couldn't wait for bedtime in my early quit. Not only was I exhausted from battling all the strong urges to light up again but when I was asleep, I had NO cravings so .... going to sleep was a win-win!! As I'm sure you've heard before, these quit symptoms are temporary and will pass in time. I know right now, a day must seem like a week to you. Time almost seems to stop in the early days of quitting but it isn't so just push through all challenges one at a time. Things will get easier
  9. For as long as you need it to. Your mind is slowly building a new normal that doesn't include lighting up a smoke after almost everything you do or every emotion you feel. That takes a while so in the meantime, replace those lost moments with some other activity. Keeps your mind off listening to that voice in your head that's trying to talk you into lighting up again. That's your junkie voice and we all had it when quitting!

  13. Congratulations on reaching 12 weeks quit Angeleek! Even more benefits coming your way as time goes by. Enjoy your day!
  14. This is what the early days of quitting are all about. Fighting the cravings one at a time and by doing that, the cravings become weaker and your resolve to stay quit becomes stronger. Sure, it's not easy but it's a very small price to pay for your life long freedom from slavery to nicotine! Stay strong and remember the reasons you're quitting for!
  15. This is how we all became smoke free Guttie, 1 battle at a time! Each battle you win, YOU become stronger and better able to fight the next one. One battle at a time is how it's done!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
