  1. 7 days in the nicotine is out of your system what you are dealing with now is the mental aspect of the addiction. Like any addiction smoking should be handled the same way. Do you have hobbies or things you enjoy doing? focus on those. Go for a walk, exercise is really good for passing the time and once you are out of breath smoking won't be a thought. Do you suffer anxiety normally? If so how do you do deal with it. Most important be patient with yourself it takes time to calm the mind down. Just posting is a good start.

  6. You need to think it and tell yourself I don't smoke therefore I am a no-smoker. Just keep reminding yourself and before you realize you just feel it! A week passes another week passes. It will happen.

  8. Happy Birthday!
  9. Hello Lynn pleasure to meet you.
  10. Bjean I found the ones I missed were the happy relaxed smokes not the stressed ones so much. I still find on a sunny day sitting by the shore those are the ones I think about. Then I take a couple of deep clean breaths and that too passes. I am still retraining my mind. Hiking season is coming and at the end of long hard hike I would sit by the stream and light up. Sounds crazy but for me those are the ones that linger in my brain. I wouldn't say miss because that is wrong but I recall those more. It is all good just keep going forward.
  11. Well stated by all. Quitting is a one many show with many cheerleaders on the side line. Just as Smoking is a one man show you decide to light up.....

    Irma

Yes my boss is being evacuated we hold the fort here in NY Long Island while he enjoys (well except for Irma) the fancy life working from the Keys. Very scary all the poor little islands in the way.
  15. Welcome Kad657 hope you stay awhile.
  16. Our own minds can be our worst enemy anything we fixate on will become an obsession whether good or bad. We can't plan our entire future sometimes I can't even plan what's for dinner and that is ok. Life would be so so boring if we had it all pre-planned. Go with some of the suggestions here. Distractions, exercise that is the biggest motivator. I played handball on Friday and was pleasantly surprised the stamina I had which was a good reminder why being a non smoker is better..
  17. Yeah how exciting Congrats Jackie
  18. Big congrats I too have been away from machines. which isn't a bad thing. Happy Dance for you :)
  19. Nope
  20. I think since the time my son was born they really did much more to educated kids. Is it enough who knows. We knew drugs were bad for you yet tried them anyway. I was paying $12.50 when I was smoking. I know some older folks that tell me stories they quit when cigarettes went to over a $1.00 that cracks me up. I do recall as a kid my mom would give me 65 cents to go to the candy store and buy her cigarettes she smoked kool back then. Now that seems crazy but it wasn't frowned upon 30+ years ago.
  21. Oh travel is a wonderful thing when you don't smoke! It is so so so less stressful. I am still greatly exciting by being at concerts and not smoking cigarettes anyway it still blows my mind. I don't gamble but I am sure you will have a great time other than the smell LOL

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
