Here is our friend, Joel Spitzer's, take on this, Resources on What Is Nicotine Really Like
-
I felt like a caged animal for a few days, when I wasn't sleeping. Breathing deep and barking at will. Hollering Free Your Head. Eating satsumas. Everybody's quit is different, every quit is different (if you have failed quits in the past). Here is what got a lot of us through the First Days Nicotine Free. I hope you add your experience.

Newbie Here and 44 Days Nicotine-Free!
Sazerac replied to Angeleek's topic in Introductions & About Us
Welcome, @Angeleek and congratulations on your 44/45 day quit ! I quit and lurked here and there for 10 months before joining. I think of lurkers all the time, there are many eyes out there and hopefully, we help. Joel Spitzer's videos helped me learn about my nicotine addiction and still do. I am a huge advocate of his work. Joel Spitzer's Quit Smoking Library You may also find this thread helpful, 10 Ways To Effectively Use This Forum To Stop Using Nicotine -
@Warrior The shit will stop when you stop poisoning yourself with nicotine. Make a commitment to yourself and hold fast to it. This is the only path to freedom !

arghh...it makes me crazy that when we have an emotional calamity we often choose self-destruction in order to deal with it. It is so counter-intuitive and oh so human. Being nicotine addicts, the weapon du jour will always be tobacco, of course. I am so glad you didn't go on to smoke more, that you caught yourself is amazing and reason to celebrate. You have been free for 13 days, Betty. Congratulations ! I wonder if you are thinking thoughts of cigarettes because you do have control over them where you may be feeling you have no power in other parts of your life. Our mind plays infinite games with us when we are not paying full attention or when things are not right or when things suddenly change. When you are experiencing craves, have a think about H.A.L.T. (are you Hungry/thirsty, Angry/emotional, Lonesome/bored, Tired) Riffing On H.A.L.T. You are smarter that your addiction, Betty. Do not be a doubter and remember your power. S

Welcome to our merry band of quitters, Betty. Are you currently smoking ? When is/was your quit date ? NOPE, Not One Puff Ever, needs to be permanently etched into our consciousness. You threw away a Six Year quit. This is a colossal lesson for you, for all of us, and a brutal reminder that addiction doesn't magically go away and stay away. It takes vigilance for the rest of our lives to stay free and we must never become complacent. Not One Puff EVER. NEVER EVER. Please, avail yourself to all our resources and build yourself a strong and sturdy quit. Smoking has nothing for you, nothing at all. Soon you will notice a vast improvement in your skin. The color, the rosy glow was the first thing I noticed. Quit a change from a smoker's gray pallor. The spots are temporary, don't loose heart. Quitting Often Results In Healthier Looking Skin

I didn't experience this but, it is not uncommon and frankly, not surprising in the least. Check out how many chemicals we were Freebasing with each puff. Cigarette/Nicotine/Chemical Purge Down to the cilia in your lungs, your body is purging itself of thousands of toxins.

You may be tracking every hour, every minute at times but, this won't last long. Soon smoking/quitting will not take up so much brain space. I hollered, 'Free Your Head' to myself for a while. I took a few screaming showers. They were cathartic. Let us know as issues come up and we will commiserate or find you resources that may help. Do anything you need to do to free yourself and know that the journey will get easier. Believe us, we don't lie.

Woof Woof Woof @Boo Black Labs are maybe the goofiest dogs. When I lived up in the CA hills, my Flora Lily hated water. Weird for a dog with webbed paws. She hated it so much, she would jump over little rivulets of rain water lest her toes got wet and the hose would set her to shaking. She had a barking problem also, and plenty of wild pigs, raccoons, skunks, deer and Mister Blue the peacock, etc to holler at. I am still in The Rat Wars MMXX. Still averaging 1 dead a day in one of 10 snap traps. Still....ugh.
