  9. Others in my realm may disagree, but I am not a natural psycho. Eccentric, maybe...unconventional, for sure...creative, happy, supportive and positive are closer to my modus operandi. I felt psycho because all I could think about was the issue of smoking. I wasn't going to smoke but, addiction thoughts/actions and the addict's voice in my head took a long time and effort to clear. The body memories took their time too but, considering I smoked for 40 some odd years, smoking everywhere/anywhere/all the time/doing anything/everything one year of work wasn't too long or arduous to attain my freedom. In fact, I got off light. I'm pretty healthy. I can breath. So, my cray was directly associated with addressing my nicotine addiction and disappeared when I had reclaimed most of the receptors in my brain, freeing my dosage of dopamine from the association with nicotine.
  10. Welcome to the site, Mrs Fowkes. @Nancy is absolutely correct, When you want to quit, you Can quit. When you commit to Not One Puff Ever you can have a successful quit. You may find this post helpful Ten Ways To Effectively Use This Forum

  13. Thanks, Boo, for a great, thoughtful post. I was pretty hard on myself during the first year of my quit, 'free-ing my head' was arduous at times, long and weary times. I knew I would give it a year but, sometimes the slog made me feel crazy, a self-induced sado-masochistic crazy. My addict's voice would wheedle, 'why are you punishing yourself ?' It took a lot of education to extricate the truth from my addled, addicted brain. Sometimes, with the 20/20 vision of hindsight, I think that I should have/could have made it easier on myself and maybe some of that is true but, the point is, I built myself a rock solid quit and that is all that matters. I don't Smoke. I won't Smoke. NOPE-ly yours, S
  14. I am sorry, Leon, but, I cannot give you any support for your vaping. no, nada. Should you want to address your nicotine addiction you must first educate yourself and second, make a commitment to YOURSELF. This forum supports Freedom not slavery.

  16. If you want to be a vaper, I know, I can't help you. Being a slave to nicotine is a horrible life, being a willing addict is ridiculous. You can believe what you will about the safety of vaping. I don't buy it for a second. You know why ? Don't look behind the curtain....big tobacco is still a major player and you may remember how nice those guys are. here is some material for your consideration Escape The Vape American Lung Association ECigarettes and lung health Vaping Residue can Transfer Between Rooms Nicotine Levels in E cigs Toxic Metals Found in E Cigs New Research Confirms The Toxic Effect of Vaping E Cigarette Vapor, even when nicotine free Found to Damage Lung Cells Do some research from sources not funded by tobacco companies or vaping interests. I want you to know that you are not a special snowflake or more addicted than any of us. You CAN quit smoking and put your nicotine addiction to rest. Educate yourself. Stand by your commitment to yourself to never take another puff. Come here to blow off steam and get great support and education. You can quit. I know you can and the rewards are many layered. Attitude

The only pattern I have noted is when quitters are initially 'too exuberant' and ignorant of the nature of addiction, the initial impetus falls flat pretty quickly and they disappear. Quitting nicotine is serious work. While exuberance can be a propellant, it is education and solid commitment that builds the successful quit. I knew @Linda Thomas was going to make it. She just needed a nudge to start believing in herself, trusting in herself. Nicotine steals self confidence and it is a pleasure to watch it return.
  23. Hello Leon and welcome to our merry band of nicotine free/smoke free creatures. I think the first thing I had to understand was The Law of Addiction this understanding and acceptance that I had an addiction helped me to fight it with my whole being and attain my freedom. You can be free too. It isn't impossible or even insanely difficult. You must want to quit more than you want to smoke or vape and education will tip the balance. About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
