  1. Welcome ! Please learn all you can about nicotine addiction. Education is the best tool in your tool box and we have a plethora of materials here at your fingertips. You are going to have to learn how to live as a non-smoker and retrain your brain. Rewards are an integral part of a quit and a fun one to boot. Dig this post, The Significance of Rewards. When are you going to start your quit ?
  2. It took a full year and change before I was grooving in my new normal. There were gnarly moments but, I didn't care, my commitment was unwavering and I was willing to go through anything in order to be free. I really considered the process as an adventure and I love adventures so, that provided some impetus plus, reading peoples stories helped me to see the light at the end of the tunnel and celebrate little victories. Learning about the Significance of Rewards was a great tool and v. fun, 'spoiling myself' for craves/triggers overcome. It was an enjoyable technique that helped smooth the rough edges of a quit.
  3. I just finished up the leftover Legendary Gumbo from Jazz Fest '19, lol. Making pork balls (sorry reci). Plenty of a really awesome red sauce to go through. A couple of casseroles...a homemade eggplant/zuch Parmesan, a roasted corn pudding. So, yes my friend, I am living large. Sipping on lemon, ginger, or hibiscus ice cubes in fizzy water (with a dollop of Gin). They will need a fork lift (or a ladle lift) to evacuate me, lol. S
  4. You are going to have smokey thoughts, no doubt about it. Push them out of your head, replace them with a thought or sight of beauty... Look ! the light on that leaf, the shadow on that wall, the color of that edge of sky etc. Think of a loved one's smile or laughter. Think of anything/everything that brings beauty to your senses. The sooner you identify smokey thoughts and replace them, the sooner your brain will reward you.

  6. Hello Diane, welcome. I believe @Nancy quit with Chantix and has a long successful quit. There may be others. I, like @Christa326 quit cold turkey. This site supports ALL quits. Let us know when you quit and we will be great support. In the meantime, watch the videos that @Ankush so kindly found for you and continue with your education about nicotine addiction.   11. I am happy to see you starting a blog ! Writing can help as does reading EVERYTHING you can about nicotine addiction. You say, "My every intention at this moment is to stay and have a permanent quit" I say, It is the commitment to yourself and to Not One Puff Ever that will solidify your intentions. Very glad you found us, Michelle. It will be encouraging and inspiring to read how you build your quit.
  12. All we can do is accept the past and instigate change NOW. I may still die of smoking related complications but, I will not die as a slave to nicotine. I will die as a free person. So, not only the quality of my life has improved by quitting smoking but, the quality of my death will be enriched. I won't be insane with anxiety on my deathbed needing a hit of nicotine. I will, hopefully, be able to be present and leave the world peacefully.
  13. you seem to be determined to torture yourself. Put some determination into your quit ! Think about why you are defeating yourself. Once you make the commitment to yourself to never take another puff you will stop the torture. You are stronger than any crave or trigger. Get involved with your quit, educate yourself about nicotine addiction. Read read read everything you can. Tell us when you are feeling overwhelmed or when you are losing focus. We can help, if you let us. S

  18. spray w/ wd-40 and let it sit for a while, re-apply for a few applications and let it sit then tap tap tap with your wrench (not too hard, just tap tap tap tap) try then. Sometimes it take a few douses of wd-40. You might also try hot water or cold water. It is always something, that's for true.
  19. Thanks, EVERYBODY !!! yep we had almost 8" earlier this morning, my street flooded (as it does with any rainstorm) and pumps were slow but, nothing inside house. I'm 4 or so feet above the sidewalk. We've dried out pretty well for this bout but, staying on high alert. This storm is v. weird already and things will start getting interesting in the coming few days.
