welcome back Michelle.....some people quit the first time....some quit after a few times...we call that the "scenic route" unfortunately...some never come back so, Congrats to you for recognizing the life or death situation that nicotine addiction really is....smart move to come back. It always helped me to remember...I might want that one cigarette..but if I have it, then what? Will I be satisfied? of course not...that one puff will set off a chain reaction and that would be smoking full time again. In addition...the illusion that "one puff" will give you relief or pleasure is just that...an illusion...all it will do is make you feel like shit...emotionally and physically. Stay close...watch the video's...read posts...stick around...pledge NOPE You've got this!! -
Daily exercise log for everyone :)

Uh oh. Went out last night. Had a wee bit too much to drink. Went to bed a wee bit too late...overslept and missed my workout. :( that's twice this week. I'm gonna have to go running. -
yep!!! I found the more critical I am of other people...the more angry I would become..and then gossip..and bitch about people...YUK...I don't like that ugliness but being human and surrounded by people all day...the temptations are always there. I'm back to meditating every day and that helps keep that at bay. I love meditation...i'm so much more comfortable and relaxed when I do it regularly. Who am I to judge? My opinions are only a perspective anyway -based on my experiences and judging without having all the facts...who really has all the facts anyway? and further more...why am I even worried about other people and what they are doing wrong? It's non of my business...being mindful of my own reactions, and my behavior and my thoughts..that's a full time job right there...no time to worry about things I can't control. Live and let live Life is good!

Hi Bonnie.....I have noticed you hanging around lately and I was wondering if you were struggling... So sorry about your daughter....she will be in my thoughts and prayers that this gets resolved for her. (((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))) Try not to beat yourself up over feeling the way you do....it's common...HOWEVER...you are correct when you say "it won't fix anything and it won't relax you"--We only associate "relaxing" with smoking because thousands of times that 'puff" helped relieve withdrawal symptoms...for many, many years. We only associated the "relax" with "smoke" but that's all it was....an illusion..an association. You've got this...there is no "hope" only "do" and you will commit to NOPE...go now.....do it! Stay close....you are on very very shaky ground and need to be here. Glad to read you even though it's under stressful circumstances

no excuses Laura...you are just going to have get comfortable with being uncomfortable for a wee bit......that's all. You only have to do it once. No matter what....not one puff! You can scream...stomp your feet...cry....punch pillows....RUN...run fast....run so freaking fast that it takes 10 min to catch your breath....you won't want to smoke after that...believe me! drink water...call a friend...come on the board....youtube funny videos...anything but smoke because ~~whatever excuse you come up with to smoke --the problem doesn't go away with a puff....once you smoke you know you will feel like even more shit....that's how it works. No....matter....what! That is it now...you are all too familiar with knowing that each time you chose to smoke...it didn't help your situation. So...put that in your memory bank and remember that for this sticky quit. Become that non smoker I know you want to be Laura...you can do it!!!

Found this Daily Om in the archives and had to share....relates to addictions of all kinds... Enduring Discomfort Missing Our Old Habits Whenever we make the effort to free ourselves of an addiction or a habit we no longer need, we are often surprised to find ourselves missing the old pattern as we would a familiar friend. This sounds counterintuitive, because we think we should instinctively gravitate toward what is good for us. Yet, it makes a lot of sense when you consider that we humans are creatures of habit. This is why we gravitate to people and places—and patterns of behavior—that make us feel comfortable. Therefore, many of the habits we form are not conscious and are based instead on learned behavior from role models who were not always making the healthiest decisions. Most addictions begin as a way of avoiding feelings that are extremely uncomfortable, so it makes sense that stopping the addiction means a fair amount of discomfort for a time. The same is also true of habits that we have developed over time that we are ready to release. Just knowing that this is hard, and having compassion for ourselves as we work through this process, can help us to stay the course when we feel the urge to backtrack. It’s also helpful to remember that in time we will establish new, healthier patterns, and the yearning for the old ones will disappear. Eventually, we will instinctively reach for things that are good for us, and the longing for positive change may form the basis of a new habit. The only way to get to this new place is to endure a time of difficulty, which is a challenge we can confidently handle, if we remember that it will lead to the change we seek in our lives. Our bodies, hearts, and minds always need time to adjust to a new way of doing things, but they will adapt, and even become our allies, if we remain true to our vision of a new way. http://www.dailyom.com/articles/2008/12412.html

“…feelings like disappointment, embarrassment, irritation, resentment, anger, jealousy, and fear, instead of being bad news, are actually very clear moments that teach us where it is that we’re holding back. They teach us to perk up and lean in when we feel we’d rather collapse and back away. They’re like messengers that show us, with terrifying clarity, exactly where we’re stuck. This very moment is the perfect teacher, and, lucky for us, it’s with us wherever we are.” ― Pema Chödrön
