  1. Great job MQ. Congratulations. All of us who ride the Train thank you.
  2. Bingo! Gradual decline is the worst of both worlds: you're still a smoker but you experience the withdrawal symptoms associated with the early days of a quit. I wasted a lot of time dipping a toe to check the water. Thankfully, I finally jumped right in. And the rest is history.
  3. Heard one of those blast from the past songs today. Van Halen's 1984 was the first album I bought with my own money...on cassette tape. I couldn't crank it up like I used to, my baby girl was napping, but I still like this song...
  4. Good job Mac. Congratulations. You're building a rock-solid quit for yourself and leading the way for those following your path.
  5. Welcome aboard Chris. How to start a quit...you ash out that last cigarette and commit to never smoking another one. The process of quitting is challenging, but the process could not be more simple. You don't have to do anything. You simply refrain from smoking. This simple process will not only set you free from nicotine addiction, but will have a positive impact on many aspects of your life. You have made a great decision for yourself. Buckle up, knuckle down, and drive on.
  6. Good job Michelle.
  7. Me and the little gal were playing with one of her stuffed animals last night. I improvised a little song. Sung to the tune of "Here Comes Peter Cottontail." Here comes piggy curly tail, Waddling down the piggy trail, He's a good pig, he's no baddie, He just wants to play with his best friend Maddie... I can't help but wonder if Rec would be interested in buying the publishing rights for this song.
  8. A bit of exercise goes a long way in helping when you have a craving for a cigarette. It doesn't need to be anything intense, just a brisk walk will do. Physical exercise will keep the weight gain at bay and calm your mind during those challenging times early in a quit...two birds with one stone. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on quitting smoking.
  9. Congratulations John. Savor the flavor of freedom.
  10. Welcome aboard Pedro. Good call on giving up the smokes. You are an addict. You're going to want a smoke from time-to-time. There's a saying around here: "A crave is not a command." There will be times when you want to smoke but resist the urge because you've made a commitment to yourself. Those are the moments where quits are built. A bit of momentary discomfort for a lifetime of freedom is a good deal.
  11. And another river song...
  12. Some rivers flow 80 proof... Drowning in a whiskey river leads some to have a come to Jesus moment...
  13. Speaking of animals with undeserved good reputations... I've said it before and I'll say it again: ducks are assholes.
  14. And a couple more songs about waterways...
  15. We still doing river songs? The Chattahoochee also got a mention in one of my favorite songs from back in the day...
  16. I know what to listen for if you go missing Doreen...
  17. Boo

    Confessions

For as long as I can remember, my dad always says "I need to go see a man about a dog" before going into the bathroom. I know what he intends to do when he says it, but still don't have a clue what that saying actually means.
  18. I like rivers. I like themed music challenges. I like Johnny Cash.
  19. You're well on your way now. Good job Layla.
  20. Congratulations on four years of freedom.
  21. Unfortunately, most of Merritt's videos are blocked here in America. I'm sure I've mentioned it before but I hate the practice of Sony and UMG blocking music videos...now is not the time for that rant. Here is one video I found that those of us in the States can access...
  22. Maddie has a barnyard themed playmat. If you touch the animals they either make a noise or play a song. Push the lamb and you get "Mary had a Little Lamb." My first thought was: Not bad, but I like Stevie Ray's version better.
  23. A good reminder that anybody can quit. ANYBODY! Bakon is an idiot and even he figured it out. Good job dumbass.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
