  1. Trust the science!
  2. The classic goat meets toad, toad meets goat love story. It's quite a tale, most of which is unsuitable for retelling in mixed company.

Congratulations to Jimmy and the missus.
  4. This song feels older than it actually is. Brings back a lot of memories that are older than the song itself...if that makes any sense.
  5. Here in America, there are more ex-smokers than there are current smokers. With so many having already quit and fewer young people starting in the first place, smoking is slowly but surely becoming a thing of the past. Cigarettes are going the way of the dodo bird and 8-track tapes; good riddance.
  6. During the early days of my quit, the brain fog was thick. A lot of walking into a room and forgetting why I was there. One morning I was getting ready for work. Something felt not quite right. Just before I put my shoes on, I realized I wasn't wearing any pants. Now, I almost never forget to wear pants....almost never.
  7. Welcome aboard Amy. Congratulations on one-month off of the smokes. Every journey starts somewhere. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how many benefits the process of quitting offers.
  8. Welcome to the Quit Train Joan. You already know the drill: don't put anything in your mouth and light it on fire. Welcome back to the freedom of being a non-smoker.
  9. Don't forget why you quit. "If you know the why, you can live any how." --Friedrich Nietzsche
  10. Way to go Jeff.
  11. Just like smoking became normal to us with time and repetition, not smoking becomes normal with time and repetition. Bingo!
  12. Welcome aboard CarpeLibrum. Good call on giving up the smokes. You are in a transition phase right now...there will be some ups and downs along the way, but the ride is worth it. Buckle up, knuckle down, and drive on.
  13. Addiction demands a great deal of attention. This is true when you're feeding the addiction. This is also true when you're leaving the addiction behind. The obsessive thoughts encountered during the early days of a quit wane and eventually vanish. The obsessive thoughts smokers have about getting their next fix are a ball and chain that you will drag around the rest of your life. Quitting offers a return on investment. Smoking just keeps you on the same old self-destructive cycle you already know. Relentless forward progress. You reach the goal by consistently moving towards your goal. No backtracking. No U-Turns. You keep moving forward; it's the only way.
  14. A guy at work has a daughter in the Scouts. We've done more than our fair share to help the troops. I enjoy a Tagalong from time-to-time and we can just include the money spent on cookies in the discretionary budget.
  15. Sorry to hear about your friend Linda. Smoking offers nothing of value but will eventually take everything.
  16. Bumping this one as a reminder to be patient with the process. We spent years feeding our addiction and conditioning our minds with cigarettes. The good news is: I don't even remember the last time I craved a cigarette. Not smoking is no longer a challenge. Smoking a cigarette is unimaginable at this point in my quit. And my "Quit Day %" is only around twenty-percent now. Viewed in the proper perspective, we can undo decades of damage in a comparatively short amount of time.
  17. Great job Kate. Congratulations. Celebrate, you've earned it.
  18. Little Larry had a lot of energy and a double-neck guitar. Just stand back and watch him go.
  19. Finally got tired of being a slave to the cigarette. My every waking hour was dominated by getting my next fix. The cigarette was the captain of the ship, I was just along for the ride.
  20. Stopping one cycle of self-destruction builds momentum towards stopping other types of self-sabotage. Quitting smoking, committing to the process and following through with it, builds newfound strength and confidence that has tremendous carryover to other aspects of your life. Earlier this morning I was listening to the latest episode of "Starting Strength Radio." One line Mark Rippetoe said that really hit home was: "if you can change your physical existence, you can change any aspect of your existence." You can quit smoking Steven. I know you can do it. Everybody here on the Quit Train knows you can do it. Now it's time for Steven to know he can do it and the only way to get there is to commit to the process and get it done.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
