  1. RULE #1: Don't put cigarettes in your mouth and light them on fire. RULE #2: If you have any further questions, refer back to rule #1. The process of quitting smoking could not be more simple. Complicating the process is nothing more than procrastination masquerading as planning.

  5. I've had some of my best workouts on days when I didn't really feel like working out. Motivation is nice but unreliable. Some days you just punch the clock and do the work.

  7. Congratulations Barb.
  8. Good job Gus.
  9. Welcome aboard the Quit Train Magicalwoodpecker. The number we're aiming for is 0 per-day. Quit math is different than regular math: 0>5. You're already halfway there. Now, just go all-in and you will be free from the smokes for good.
  10. I've got an in-house couch inspector too. Cash has his own bed that is just a few feet from the couch, but he still likes to crawl up there and spread out.
  11. A very important point. Your quit is yours and yours alone. I've been here long enough to see a few new quitters get themselves all wound up. Worried that their experience is not identical to that of someone else. Am I doing it right? One simple yes-or-no question is all that is needed here: Did I smoke today? If you answered no, you are doing it right. If you answered yes, you are not doing it right and need to start over. This is a simple process.

  18. When I'm asked: "how did you quit smoking?", my answer is always the same: "I quit putting cigarettes in my mouth and lighting them on fire." It really is that simple. The moment I wanted to quit more than I wanted to smoke, things just started to fall into place.
  19. The threads pinned at the top of the "Quit Smoking Discussions" section is a good place to start. Great deal of valuable information in there.
  20. Welcome aboard Barb. The ups and downs of the early days of the quit level out with time. Congratulations on giving up the smokes. Quitting is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
  21. Some folks age like a fine wine. Bakon ages like bread. Happy Birthday FartKnocker.
  22. Don't mistake withdrawal for anything other than what it is. Smoking a cigarette will temporarily relieve an addict of the withdrawal symptoms. A cigarette is not some magic elixir. We smoked because we craved nicotine. We craved nicotine because we smoked. The only problem solved by a cigarette is the problem caused by the cigarette. It's not uncommon to attach a myriad of other issues to the withdrawal symptoms experienced during the early days of the quit. In the past, I've blamed everything from a stumped toe to bad weather on the fact that I quit smoking. These issues were unrelated to my smoking status, but my addicted and conditioned brain assured me that one cigarette would make it all better. I find it best to isolate issues and handle each one as a separate entity. Things feel less overwhelming that way. Welcome to the Quit Train Robbie.
  23. Present and accounted for. Would've been here sooner...those stairs are tricky.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
