  1. This week is finally over. Thinking about cranking up some Burnside and just driving...somewhere.
  2. That's key right there. It's the paradox of quitting: I want to smoke a cigarette, but I don't want to be a smoker. Once I accepted the fact that I was an addict, and with that comes the occasional thought of wanting a cigarette, I learned to dismiss those thoughts easily. Random thoughts springing from an addicted mind are nothing to fear and are immediately overridden by the commitment to never smoke again. When I stopped making straight lines crooked, the simplicity of quitting amazed me.
  3. Welcome aboard kps. I threw away several quit attempts myself. Water under the bridge. Some hit it on the first try, others of us had to back up and take another run at it. Eventually you find yourself in a place where the mind and body are working together and the promise of being a nonsmoker fulfills itself. Congratulations on 5 days.
  4. Grab a seat on the train and enjoy the nonsmoking ride Slow. "I can now!" Absolutely.
  5. It's another great day to be smokefree. And also a good day to collectively thumb our nose at the tobacco industry. Who's with me? NOPE!

  7. Welcome aboard Carlos and congratulations on making one of the best decisions of your life. You mentioned stress and that was a big issue for most of us when we quit. It is important to know that cigarettes do not actually help us deal with stress. The only thing smoking during a time of stress does is temporarily relieve the withdrawal symptoms. Smoking in no way, shape, or form aids us in dealing with the actual stressor. Smoking only solves the problem created by smoking. And since nicotine levels drop significantly faster when we are stressed, the withdrawal relief diminishes quicker. It is a vicious cycle. Your attitude is vital. Remain calm...Withdrawal symptoms cease. Cravings go away. Nicotine addiction cannot throw anything at you that you cannot handle with relative ease. Simply commit to never putting a cigarette in your mouth and lighting it on fire. Simple. Go forth and don't smoke. Enjoy the ride.
  8. I just got here...
  9. Whatever the official count stands at...Congratulations.
  10. I'll start today and I am sure the rest will join the chorus throughout the day... NOPE!

  16. The cigarette offers you nothing, it doesn't provide true relief or facilitate day-to-day living. Once you accept that as an undeniable truth, addiction has very little opportunity for a counter-attack. Good work Evelyn. Strength begets strength.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
