Yet one more benefit of quitting...I went to the optometrist this morning. Nothing serious, I just needed a new prescription. I have been using artificial tears and on more extreme occasions of irritation a gel that you put in your eyes right before going to bed. He asked how that was going and I informed him that I haven't had issues with dryness and irritation of late. Long story short, since I quit smoking my eyes are in better shape and far less prone to irritation. This is in spite of the fact that this is the height of allergy season in Tennessee. Once we put two-and-two together, it was clear that smoking was a major factor in the eye issues I was having.
For years I have attributed my eye issues to allergies or lack of sleep. It was those damn cigarettes that were causing my issues.
Some of you reading this may well be lurkers still on the fence about quitting. You may even tell yourself that you feel fine. What you feel is normal; normal for you. If you quit, you will feel better than your normal and a variety of issues will clear up. Issues that you may not even realize are related to smoking. Do yourself a favor and quit. It's not as difficult as you likely think it will be and the benefits rack up in a way that will surprise you.
