  1. Welcome aboard Momobrick. That book combined with the educational resources available here on the Quit Train made all the difference for me. Education about addiction allows you to dispel the myths and lies of the cigarette. When you see smoking for what it really is as opposed to how we perceived it as addicts, the choice becomes clear. Taking the time to educate yourself about addiction and finding this support forum puts you on good footing for a successful quit. Congratulations.
  2. The choice is yours and the addiction only has the power you give it. Enduring withdrawal symptoms is a small price to pay for freedom. I would wish you luck, but you don't need it. Congratulation on choosing to take back your life Kendra.
  3. NOPE!
  4. Shout out to Petra for reminding me of The Cars. Those guys did some great songs back in the day.
  5. Don't beat yourself up. You didn't smoke and used the patches as a stopgap measure. So long as you stay on the path towards freedom you're going in the right direction. "The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing."
  6. Not only will quitting lead to becoming a healthier non-smoker, the process of quitting will serve you well in every area of life. Any stress you feel during the process will lead to adaptation. Adaptation leads to strength. Strength facilitates living. The process is simple and the rewards of quitting when weighed against the challenges make the decision an obvious one. Break the chains and start reaping the rewards.

  9. My process is simple. Find a subject that you have strong opinions on. Sound off like a know-it-all. Lastly, always choose the most histrionic and ostentatious verbiage available...See what I did there? Easy as 1-2-3. Sincerely, Your grandiloquent confidant Boo
  10. The important thing is to keep that promise to yourself. Addiction always leads towards self-destruction. It's vital that we remind ourselves daily that we deserve better than what the cigarette offers. Onward toward freedom Evelyn.

  15. Dogmatic adherence to a political ideology or candidate is great for people with no critical thinking skills. It offers the illusion of being tuned in via mindlessly repeating other people's talking points. Some people are incapable of processing more than one thought, but they can scream and throw things. Hooray for my side and to hell with you!

  25. Welcome aboard Diana. You have received some great advice already, so I don't have much to add. I will say this: if nicotine withdrawal leads to depression for you, I would advise that you stop poisoning yourself with nicotine at regular intervals throughout the day. The only people who endure nicotine withdrawal forever are those who continue to smoke. The cigarette is not the answer, it is the problem. Commit. Learn. Set yourself free.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
