    11 Mornin' all.
  3. Plenty of good options already offered up. Deep breathing exercises are something I started when I quit, but plan to do from now on. Breathing deeply and really focusing on each breath calms the mind and body. There are any number of ways to do these exercises, but breathing in through the nose and exhaling slowly from the mouth with your lips pursed always does the trick for me. Breathe deep, relax, and let the newfound freedom flow.

  8. Welcome aboard Kelly and congratulations on setting yourself free. No need to fear. Smoking is a very simple process that yields great rewards. The withdrawal symptoms, mental fog, and obsessive thoughts all pass in time. When the fog clears, you find yourself feeling much better than you did as a smoker and you are free of the old ball and chain that is cigarettes. You're giving up a deadly habit that does nothing but take from you in return for a new life of freedom and improved health. Drive on!

  12. I don't miss that first one in the morning. And I thought that would be the hardest one to give up. In reality, that first drag in the morning would typically set off a bit of hacking and coughing. I suppose that was the price to pay for gearing up my body for another day of intermittent poisoning. The things we used to do to ourselves...

  14. Welcome aboard ExTex. It's common to take several practice runs at quitting before finding the quit that sticks. This site is immensely helpful and with that commitment to quit you wrote of, you're well on your way. Congratulations, you just started one of the most rewarding processes one can undertake. Enjoy the ride.
  15. Cool. Are you a fan of pointless numbers games?

  20. I don't know that I will ever forget that I was a smoker. I may get hit on the head by a coconut and develop amnesia, but life rarely plays out like an episode of Gilligan's Island. That being said, after just a matter of a few weeks the whole process really started to make sense. The simplicity of quitting became embedded in my mind and I figured out that the cravings are just the passing thoughts of an addicted mind and have no power on their own. Since then, it has been smooth sailing. In those first few days of a quit, the puzzle pieces look like a jumbled mess. In short time the pieces start to fit together nicely. And eventually, the pieces seemingly fall together on their own. Just keep moving forward and you will get to exactly where you want to be.
  21. Yep. I heard some college age kids the other day complaining about slow wi-fi at a restaurant. I tell ya...these kids today have no idea what a truly slow internet connection is.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
