  1. So, today is the big day for me: my one-year quit anniversary. While I'm enjoying the celebration, I do want to take a moment and say thank you to the members of this forum. I lurked around for a bit before I quit. This is where I first heard of Allen Carr. I watched all of the Joel Spitzer videos. And I read through many of the threads where the members contributed excellent information. My head was a mess at times during those early days, but the information I picked up here changed my thinking. I tried to resist at times, but as I came back time and again those inevitable truths kept presenting themselves. I ceased the resistance and freedom was the natural byproduct. There is no way to know for sure if I would have a yearlong quit under my belt had I not boarded the Train. I can say for certain that there would have been a greater learning curve if not for this forum. And there is no way quitting would have been nearly as much fun had I not found this place. The Quit Train...Good people making a difference in people's lives and having some fun times in the process. Roll on!
  2. That old story. Boy meets girl. Girl meets boy. They start talking about banjo music and making jokes about sodomy...that's when the sparks start flying.
  3. Doreen is getting an early start... And where is Sonic? He should be back with the supplies by now.
  4. Awww, yeah! What time is it? It's lido time!
  5. Smoke today? The lido deck is smokefree. NOPE!

  10. I certainly didn't enjoy smoking anymore yet there was some fear about not "getting to smoke" anymore. Addiction and reason don't live in the same neighborhood.

  12. Well...I guess with 365 days in a year it won't hurt to let y'all have one.
  13. There was no significance in my choosing March 9. I had been thinking about quitting for months. It was going to be a January 1 quit...that didn't work out. There were several false starts in early 2016. I'm an addict and every time I looked for an excuse to smoke, I found one. Finally, the combination of smoking, procrastination, and self-loathing got to be a bit much and I decided it was time to either quit or resign myself to the fact that I was going to be a smoker until it killed me. I had a decision to make, as my grandfather liked to say: "shit or get off the pot". A year-ago today I decided March 9 would be the day. It was either quit or commit to a life of smoking. I smoked all day on March 8, 2016...even more than usual. For an idea of how obsessive-compulsive I can be, I stepped out on my back deck at 11:50 p.m. I smoked one quickly, then lit another. And at 11:59 p.m. on March 8 I took two more long drags and extinguished it. It all seems so stupid now, but made perfect sense at the time.

  21. We're like family here. We put the "fun" in dysfunctional.
  22. The fact that you went to the gym and put in the work is impressive. Never apologize for being a beginner, that's where it starts.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
