Kdad, one of the best pieces of advice I picked up on this forum early on was: "Take smoking off the table." Simple enough and it has worked every time it has been tried. Smoking is not an option for a non-smoker. Eliminate the option and you can eliminate the internal bargaining. The list of things you can do is infinite. There is just the one thing you can't do, which is smoke a cigarette.
  5. Good news Sunshine: those of us on the more impatient side can successfully quit smoking...A fact that I am quite thankful for. In fact, the process of quitting taught me some valuable lessons about patience and delayed gratification. The process will reward you many times over when you stay the course.
  6. There is a lot of insight to be gained from watching the videos and reading the posts. However, much of quitting smoking is just trudging uphill until you hit level ground. Inspiration and motivation are not going to carry you up the hill, you just keep walking forward until you get there. There are no secrets to a successful quit. You simply must decide if you want to quit more than you want to smoke. I know you can quit. I sincerely hope that you start to believe it as well.
  7. Happy Valentine's Day.

    Happy Valentine's Day Doreen...
  9. Welcome aboard the Quit Train Sunshine. Make the commitment to yourself and you are set. Congratulations Sunshine, you've made one of the best decisions you will ever make.
  10. Good job Katgirl.
  11. That is a top-shelf quit. Great job Rozuki.
  12. Welcome aboard Oslo. When I was your age, I still had a naive sense of invincibility. Congratulations, you're ahead of the curve. Desires and motivations are nice but fickle. Solid quits are built on a commitment to yourself. You recognize the need to quit. Now is the time to commit and be relentless with that commitment. It is a simple process with only two incontrovertible rules: (1) DON'T SMOKE! and (2) If you have any further questions, refer back to rule number one. Quitting smoking will leave you with only one regret...not quitting sooner.
  13. I haven't done any gardening on my own, but spent a fair amount of time helping tend to my grandparent's garden when I was a kid. Mostly green beans, peas, and tomatoes. I was planning on growing muscadines here at the house a little while back but got sidetracked. I will probably get started on that next Spring.
  14. Craving some fried okra. I just finished reading a post by Kris in another thread and could go for a heaping helping of okra right about now. Also, looking for a bit of sympathy. I smashed my middle finger today when I went to catch a cylinder of argon that was falling over. It is already starting to swell up. Jeff from the warehouse only asked: "that's not your whacking off hand is it?" So...I'm getting no sympathy from the guys I work with.
  15. I do like a nice success story. Good job Jim.
  16. Heaven Tonight is one of the greatest rock albums of all-time.
  17. Monkey gifs....Now we're talking!
  18. And dogs...don't forget the dogs.
  19. Good job Steven. Congratulations.
  20. Any excuse to post a song by the Kinks is fine with me... Celebrations shall continue all day and all of the night...
  21. Congratulations Ace. It's time to commence with the celebratory activities.
  22. Viva Tres Hombres!
  23. I used to think memes were just pictures with captions on them that got passed around on the internet. Such as: Now the word seems to encompass most anything that is shared in a particular culture. I only consider photos with text to be memes, because I'm stubborn like that. However, certain videos pass the meme test as well. I realize this post clears up nothing, but what the hell?
  24. With commitment and that strong desire, you already have everything you need to build a successful quit. I know a guy who has been chewing Nicorette for over fifteen years...and he took up vaping a couple of years ago. He ditched the cigarettes but he never stopped feeding the beast.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
