Where I'm at, Raleigh, NC, was originally in the direct path but now it is on the edge of the storm. We've gotten a decent amount of rain and my power has been out of a little over a day but things are not bad compared to many more directly impacted by the storm. There has been 20 + inches of rain (with more on the way) in places not very far south and east of here (Wilmington, New Bern, and South Carolina is now in the path). Things aren't too bad here but the images in the below links aren't very far from me. Wilmington NC damage https://www.wral.com/weather/hurricanes/image_gallery/17841138/ New Bern NC damage https://www.wral.com/weather/hurricanes/image_gallery/17841433/ Other NC damage https://www.wral.com/weather/hurricanes/image_gallery/17843759/ CNN Coverage: https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/11/weather/gallery/hurricane-florence/index.html Prayers to everyone impacted by this big, slow moving storm.

Yes you can. If you go back to smoking, you will be miserable and always be wishing that you could quit. I used to go through that quitting and relapsing cycle and it was horrible. Stay strong and keep the quit. You will be glad you did with time.

I smoked for about 20 years and spent the last ten years in a cycle of trying to cut down, making an attempt to quit, getting frustrated and relapsing, smoking heavily, cutting down, making an attempt to quit, getting frustrated and relapsing...you get the idea. I probably had about 20 quit attempts my last ten years as a smoker. I think 44 days was the longest quit, before this one. I had a lot that lasted less than a week or two. I look at those short quits as well intended but poorly educated. I was always giving up something I thought I loved and was not focusing on the actual benefits to quitting. Once I started to educate myself about the benefits, it became easier. Allen Carr helped me a lot as did support groups like this one. Once I started to focus on the positives and realize that the negatives were temporary, it became easier for me to finally quit.

Thanks @Sazerac We've discussed this before but I'm a weather geek too. I'm very familiar with Weather Underground but Levi's Tropical Tidbits is new to me. Thanks for sharing this link. This looks really good.

Feeling overwhelmed and of course so close to that smoke
johnny5 replied to Mee's topic in The S.O.S. Board
I don't have much to add, Linda. I'm sorry for what you are going through but thanks for reaching out with an SOS about your situation. Life can get rough but smoking will do nothing to make anything better. Keeping the quit through rough times early on is definitely worth applause. Keep up the great work! -
Yeah, I live in the Raleigh area. I am a couple of hours inland from the coast but that doesn't matter a lot when there is a category 4 storm (as it currently is) and Raleigh seems to be in the center of the projected path. For @Sazerac or anyone else wanting local coverage of Hurricane Florence, WRAL is one of the top local networks here and their weather coverage is quite good. https://www.wral.com/ and https://www.wral.com/weather/ Dan "Big Weather" Schwenneker is a meteorologist on a rival station here and his twitter feed is pretty good at covering storms. https://twitter.com/BigweatherABC11 I love Wilmington. It is one of my favorite parts of NC. Obviously the beaches are nice but the downtown district by the Cape Fear River is awesome. I also hope the storm takes a hard right soon and spares that area. My parents have a place at the beach slightly north of Wilmington and they are expecting extensive damage there...as well as probably here in Raleigh. ? WECT is a news network in Wilmington that is covering the storm.. http://www.wect.com/ Yeah, I'm definitely concerned.
