  3. Welcome Up In Smoke. Like you, I tried a number of different ways to try to quit smoking and had numerous relapses. What finally helped me was joining a forum similar to this one, learning about nicotine addition, and reaching out for help from fellow forum members as well as supporting others. Learning about nicotine addiction is key as it really helps you understand what you are fighting against and helps you be prepared for possible cravings. There is a lot of support and information here. Welcome to the site.

  5. Yes, there are a lot of bad things that can come from smoking. Shortness of breath is one of those. I ran cross country and track in high school. I picked up smoking in college. The shortness of breath, along with other negative health impacts that come from smoking, quickly put me in a place where I could not run or work out nearly like I had been doing prior to picking up smoking. You are not overthinking things. There are a lot of really bad things that come from smoking. Quitting smoking really is the best thing you can do for yourself right now. There is a lot of support and knowledge you can gain at this site to help you with this.
  6. Congratulations on 7 years smoke free, Nancy. Thanks for all that you have done to help others with their quits during this time. Celebrate today.
  7. Hi Mellymark. Feel free to comment anywhere you want. You should be able to reply to most threads throughout the site. Participation does help, especially early on in your quit. The link below is a great resource to introduce yourself to this site. Also, the video library can be found in the link below. https://www.quittrain.com/forum/15-joel-spitzers-quit-smoking-video-library/
  8. Welcome to our site, Mellymark. As stated above, whether you smoke 2 cigarettes a day or 2 packs a day, you are a nicotine addict. Educating yourself about nicotine addiction is key and it seems like you have discovered that. Support is also great as we have all been through what you are going through. Read up on the addiction and keep reaching out for help on this site as needed. It may seem tough at first but quitting smoking is a truly wonderful thing to do for yourself and your loved ones.
  9. I'm sorry that you are having a bad day, Nana, but coming here was a good idea. Smoking will not make anything better - it will just make things far worse. You are doing great to have your first month smoke free. Bad days will come but nothing is worth throwing your quit away.
  10. Congratulations on 1 month smoke free, @Nana20
  11. Congratulations on 3 months smoke free, @Mac#23 and thanks for all the support that you add to this place. Celebrate today.
  12. Not keeping with the US city song title theme for the 4th of July but I always found the Blue Angels shows patriotic.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
