  5. Welcome to the site, Amyen. You care doing a great thing with quitting smoking. I made it a point to try to focus on positive changes I was noticing as my quit progressed instead of dwelling over what I felt I was missing by not smoking. With time, you will see that you are really not missing anything good by quitting smoking. Everything that comes with smoking is bad, whether it be diseases (which there are many), the financial cost, missing out on things by always ducking out for a smoke break, that horrible smell, etc. etc. etc. Everything that comes with quitting is positive. You will notice many great changes the longer you go smoke free. It may be rough early on but it is worth the freedom you gain by quitting for good.

  7. Seeking education about nicotine addiction and support from other quitters is a great way to start. I had a number of short quit attempts until I found a quit smoking online support group similar to this. Stick around and read about the addiction. Reach out if you need help. Also, I will not get into whether or not you "love smoking." I'll just say that I thought I loved it too but once I started seeing benefits to quitting, I began to realize that I just kept craving that next nicotine fix because I was addicted to it, like Doreen said above. I thought I found smoking enjoyable back then but I definitely find nothing appealing about it now. It is great that you want to quit. Quitting is very doable, as the other members of this board can attest. Quitting for good is a truly great thing.

  11. Congratulations on 4 months smoke free, @JohnQ Keep up the great work and thanks for all the support that you provide others here.
  12. I agree with @jillar once you put that last cigarette out, you really have quit, at least until you light up again. Why not start your quit now? It is good to take it one day at a time but quitting for good is very doable. Focus on making it through tomorrow, or the next hour, or the next minute, etc. With time smoke free, you will see that you are much better without cigarettes. As far as your mind rebelling against the idea of not having cigarettes around, that is the mind of nicotine addiction. The key is to rid yourself of nicotine and you will adjust physically and emotionally with time to being a nonsmoker. Any early struggles are worth it long term.

  21. NOPE! I don't smoke anymore.
  22. Congratulations on 4 years smoke free, @Lust4Life and thanks for all the support you still provide to other quitters. Celebrate big today.

  24. Welcome aboard, @Shezi and congratulations on 6 weeks smoke free. You are doing a truly great thing. I can't give you any advice on the patch as I did not quit that way but there are many people here who can and I am sure you will hear some great advice about it. I do think it is great that you are noticing positive changes in your overall health and life since quitting. This is very important. Having the mindset and desire to "not be a smoker anymore" is also very important. Quitting is very doable. I smoked for 20 years and towards the end, I noticed that I had fewer and fewer smoking friends. When I was quitting, I didn't have many ex-smokers around me who "got it" when t came to quitting either. I joined an online quitting support forum similar to this one and the support and knowledge I gained really helped me and I'm sure it can help you too. There are a lot of resources here to educate yourself about nicotine addiction and a lot of people who will help support you. Keep reading. Write about your experiences. Reach out for help if needed. Participate. Quitting is a great thing. It is good to have you here.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
