  1. Brandy Im so pleased you're taking this step. Your mother's reaction comes from a place of pain as she knows the harm she has done to herself cage will one day acknowledge your success as you go further into your quit and maybe you'll even inspire her eventually. That thing where you 'miss' smoking. Well that's something you don't have to do as you come to realise that smoking actually does nothing for you. You are addicted to nicotine and the 'pleasure' you feel from a smoke is actually you satisfying your withdrawal from your previous smoke. life without having to satisfy this urge will be so enjoyable. The support on this little train is wonderful do stick around and post often. There's always someone around to help. I'm so excited for you on this journey! NOPE!
  2. CONSTANT VIGILANCE!! The above is a Harry Potter reference for those who don't know but the message is quite clear. I had a funny experience overnight which prompted this post. I was at work, on a night shift. We had just left a job and were stood, around 2am, in the dark, chatting to some colleagues. One took out his pack of cigs and said simply "Do you smoke?" As he offered the pack in my direction. And it was there. The hint of a bygone age. The whisper of "Oh, go on then"... Almost an Echo of me. I actually felt my fingers flinch in an automatic response. It was but a fraction of a second before my actual response was "no thanks, I quit"but for just that moment it flicked through my thoughts. I think that might be the first time someone has directly and completely innocently offered me a cigarette since I quit (I had not met this colleague before) and this was just another trigger to experience but afterwards it left me thinking about it. Because I realised that I am only ever a single puff away from smoking. I know that sounds daft when we are here saying this stuff all the time to others but when it catches you like that it never fails to amaze me. I am a million miles away from the smoker I was yet so close I can almost touch it. So, to quote the Wizards.... CONSTANT VIGILENCE!!
  3. Welcome Brandy. Boos post says it all really. It is true that once you start quitting you will wonder why you didn't try it sooner? Where are you? U.K.? USA? My advice is educate yourself. There is so much to learn and once you do, the quitting becomes so much easier. Have the read Allen CARR'S easy way to quit smoking? That's a great place to start. For many successful quitters, cold turkey is the way forward. 3 days and the nicotine is gone then it's down to psychology but you'll go a long way with a positive determined attitude. Emphysema is an horrific disease, as some others here may tell you first hand. Please, take the plunge and join us on the train. I promise you, it will change your life and you will not regret it!

  10. Well I 'm glad you're back on track but don't forget you can always post if you're having struggles. I was a very contrary Mary at the start of my quit. One day I would bounce in full of the joys and the next I would tell the tale of holding a rolled cig ready to light it.....(I didn't in the end). It's normal in even the strongest quit to have off days. The addiction was strong and the habit so deeply ingrained that it takes a lot to reprogram. I don't know about you but I've never been an adult without nicotine. I've been falsely pumping dopamine round my brain since I was 12. I'd give anything to take that away but what is done is done. Anyway, I digress! You're an asset to the Train Boo and I love your posts. Having watched so many relapse lately, I just wanted to reinforce the support available here. Now, enough with the serious, on with the slapstick!
  11. Ah, fish and chips. Truly British! I went to EPCOT once in Florida. All these wonderful buildings representing other countries. The Eiffel Tower, The Taj Mahal. And how do they represent the UK? Fish and chip shop and a pub. I wasn't sure how I felt about that!
  12. Give me an 'N'! Give me an 'O'! Give me a 'P'! Give me an 'E'! What have you got??? NOPE!!!!!
  13. Lol Tracey. You're confession is safe, you're currently the other side of the world!! I live in a small town that still has one of those old fashioned sweet shops. Of course, once upon a time it sold cigs too and was easy to get served even age 13!
  14. When were you off the right track?
  15. Wow. I'm jealous of all the different options you have in the USA for holidays! Such an amazing location.
  16. I am not sure you're ever 'all here'!
  17. I think we 'won' mostly
  18. Who's here? New and old.... Post below

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
