  1. Thanks everyone for your responses . They are all great and I appreciate everyone's very thought filled responses and even points not mentioned . Awesome . I love discussions . They also spark curiosity in me to do research and I did ... I hope others will as well . I would post links but I always like to encourage others to do their own little investigation . It can even be fun . It's very helpful and educational for sure if this subject interests you . It also helpful for your quit , to do research . This post involves what you will often hear here , and it involves the four five or six Ds which are .... Distraction which hopefully this helped distract you from a crave Delaying , cause you've had an interested in what others thought . Delaying even a short amount of time can see you over the hump of a crave . Discussing as we can see here there are lots of thoughts on the topic . All are valid and well thought out responses by each individual . Thank you . Deep breathing , well not sure bout that one. I'm just glad we are alive and breathing . Drink water .. always good have to water handy when you are quitting .. I am guilty here not drinking enough .I hate water lol . And most importantly Don't smoke while reading this or at any time from the day you say " I quit " . It's the short cut to success . So , I walked , I got groceries , having tea now and soon out for another walk because I enjoy walking in the summer . I feel good when I do . The breeze is just right , the smoke has dissipated and the temps just right . I hope everyone has learned a bit from each other here as well . I know I have .
  2. Red kites , colourful view west . FXOAP
  3. Addiction will be something to be cautious of for life . I have come to that realization for me anyway . I'm an addict and can easily go back smoking by choice and by spontaneity. If I don't choose smoking , I'll choose food and if I don't choose food it may be yo yo diets . Thank goodness alcohol has not been a consideration , nor has drugs but I can see I could easily rationalize another substance and justify it . So I have ten years quit . I do not struggle with my quit unless by choice or reaction . It would be nice to talk to a tobacco cessation specialist . I still after ten years quit have a lot of questions . I have only one brother who smoked and once he quit that was it . Does he ever think of smoking ? Never he says and it's been thirty years maybe more than that since he's smoked . I often wonder does how long we smoke attribute at all to how successful a quit might be ? Is it easier to quit if you've smoked casually or only a few years compared to a two packer and many years ? I know people who have smoked fifty years who quit no problem and others who just can't seem to get there . How much of our quits is attitude ? My brother quit in his late twenties started at 19 but was up to two packs a day . Just thoughts this morning . I guess I will just continue on focusing on making sure I never go back to it . I can say this . I had two Quits . One eight year quit was a cinch .. easy peasy . I gave it away . This ten year quit (after several more years of smoking ) was very hard but I learned a lot of lessons this quit that I didn't with the first . No no matter what , smoking is not my go to .. Have a good day everyone. Off for my walk , a new addiction . Healthier and free .
  4. Still sticking to my guns . No matter what it's not one puff today . Vision is for tomorrow . Living is the present , The past is the past .

People are living here like we are out of the woods . I hope it doesn't increase and we get in the same situation as last winter . I personally won't be able to take another lockdown , seriously . It is already going to be too much now with price increases . It's taken a toll emotionally , physically and financially on me now along with all my other stresses . I lost a couple years now making some life changes and I will soon be forced to make them because prices have skyrocketed to account for others losses and my income doesn't go up . Ie deferrals were made to those who couldn't manage now they are collecting on that and I will be paying now for other people who got that deferral who couldn't pay but putting stress on my own finances now . Governnent help is not the help it appears to be and wants you to think . A move may be the next thing I have to do and I never should have had to but not only did we get surprised by covid , the world runs on a money and class system. People w businesses need to recover . Government Gand outs are now on our shoulders . I don't have it in me for another move tbh I'm tired . Hearing from you folks this is coming back is disheartening and scary . I'm tired . Can't and won't manage another lock down . I am done . I still think they are opening our borders far too soon which is also now driving prices up as people try to take benefit , but with that locals are also paying . Covid variants may soon be the cost of that mistake as well on top of it . No breaks for us
  16. No idea how I found this site but sure glad I did . ( DRS ) . Don't remember stuff like I used to . It's really quite fun here . The people are really fun and supportive and like I said , lots and lots to do and lots of incentives and encouragements to help . Can't ask for anything more except would be fun to meet one day . Like you katgirl I had an eight year quit with no support and now I have ten with support . I could leave , but why ? I am retired , I love giving back , helping and encouraging others and I don't want to forget where I came from ...that day one , you know . I also have waaay too much time on my hands lol especially in winter so hey why not . Besides I'm shooting for fifteen years smoke free . They say that's when you are truly a non smoker not just an Ex smoker anymore , so sorry people , you are stuck with me five more years . I'm not done living for a long time or if it's only a year I'm darn well going to have fun . Don't need smoking for that , just family , friends and quit train friends.
  17. Responded on other thread but hey a double grats anytime and more high fives on a great job .
  18. Congrats Sunshine love your handle . You are quit and now vaccinated soon to have both doses . That should definitely bring you happiness and sunshine . It's been hard on so so many and still is .
  19. yhnbe Yams , ham , nummy breakfast entree GVALO
  20. Kris don't be hard on yourself . I've been trying years to understand technology . I'm not getting any better lol but people here are very understanding . Don't let it worry you . Don't make it stressful for you. See it it as a safe place where you can be curious and explore technology a bit while also keeping the quit . We have that opportunity without pressure . Others as you know have been so helpful to us both and understand . Its not about perfection or technology really anyway ( my opinion ) it's about quitting smoking and we do the best we can , mistakes and all . You must have already learned I'm a lousy speller .. a lousy computer speller lol .. technology stole that skill I used to have with auto correct that never corrects properly btw lol . Re pictures... everyone here is beautiful inside and out. I didnt take pictures in real life because I didn't see myself as beautiful and a very bad experience but let me tell you if you aren't taking pictures do because if you have kids they want those memories no matter what you think you look like . I learned the hard way .. now I wish I had my ugly pictures and I don't and they don't . Sorry I highjacked this a bit but I want to thank you for being so open and honest . You are so lovely . I see a beautiful person Kris . As far as me I am just an A for now too l. No pics and that's ok . Not real comfortable even after ten years on the net doing that but One day maybe .
  21. So glad you are here . Thanks for sharing your story . I'm sorry for your loss and what you are dealing with . It is a lot . I congratulate you on your weight loss and I have no doubt you will make that goal of 299 . I think you will really feel quite comfortable and very supported here . I was scared too when I started .. I wasn't sure I could do it , how would I live my life without a cigarette , but life today is better than ever because I quit . It will be for you too . So glad you posted , keep doing so .
  22. @Katgirl letters please ?
  23. Going to pledge A nope now and "try " to unplug from technology tomorrow . "try" Have a great Tuesday everyone wherever you are . Edit ... well that didn't last long .. my natural habit is to connect to quit train first thing in the morning lol why should today be any different . Smoking ? Not !

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
