  7. What Ho! Quitting, I fought cravings by walking. Something about putting one foot in front of the other helped me calm down. I discovered that I actually quite like walking. So...I'm off for a long walk. Next week, I am going to do a hundred miles or so of the Camino de Santiago. This is a pilgrimage, in the footsteps of St James. I am going to walk the 500 miles over five years - a week each year. (The wife won't release me for longer! :D ) "The Way" was dramatised by Emilio Estevez in a movie starring his Dad, Martin Sheen. Look it out, it's not a bad watch. On Sunday morning, I, and some friends, will set out at dawn from St Jean Pied de Port in France to cross the Pyrenees. We will walk 17 miles or so a day, and hopefully on Friday night will have supper in Logrono, in the heart of Rioja. This year, we are walking to raise money for a hospice in Ireland, where an old friend spent his final months before cancer took him away. Next year, we'll walk for another cause. Follow along on www.sensibleshoescamino.com - it should be a laugh! Could I have considered this as a smoker? Nope. My life is richer as a non-smoker. Really.
  8. Happy Birthday!
  9. Hi Ruby. The withdrawals are a pain. But welcome them, they are signs that you are winning. Change the way you think. You don't want to smoke. You don't need willpower not to do something you don't want to do. When a crave comes, smile. You are quitting. You are winning. You can do this!

  13. Nice work!
  14. :) Bet the family are delighted to see you smoke-free.
  15. I was never going to quit. I was a proper smoker. I loved it. It took me months to understand that after a hard day, I could still take five, exhale and relax. Even without a cigarette. It took months to understand that a meal had tasted good, and had been a great time. Even without a cigarette. Thinking you enjoy something is the same as enjoying something. It took me a long time to change what I think I enjoy. But I have. Keep on keeping on Tiff. Turns out I don't miss any of the things that I thought I missed...
  16. Happy Birthday Chief!

  18. Tiff. You can absolutely do this. People that I have not seen in years say to me "Wait. Where are your cigarettes? YOU quit? YOU? I thought you would never quit." 3 packs a day, thirty years - people found it tough to imagine me without a cigarette. I don't miss it one little bit. You can do this Tiff. Don't be anxious, be happy. You have got this.
  19. Get up and go for a quick walk - get those endorphins going and some fresh air... Makes breakfast taste better too

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
