Quitting Is More Doable Than Most People Think The idea that quitting smoking is close to impossible is often perpetuated at Internet quit sites. This video hits home the point that this is a dangerous misconception. Joel Spitzer has been gracious enough to let us embed his quit smoking videos in our forum to further help people quit smoking. I've tried to arrange some of Joel's videos in order with issues that someone who is still smoking might be facing, those who are new to quitting, have longer quits and even those who have years under their belts. Most of the videos are short in duration and hit on very important points that can change your outlook on quitting and in the process, change your life. When I was first thinking about quitting smoking, Joel Spitzer's articles published at whyquit.com, were the first pieces that I had read about quitting smoking and some of the articles that helped me quit are still bookmarked on my laptop. A few of the one's that changed my mindset about smoking are My Cigarette, My Friend?, The Smoker's Vow and especially the one I read daily in the early days of my quit, Stop Smoking Benefits Timetable. You can read more about Joel at his website, read his published articles at whyquit.com and watch many more videos on his YouTube channel. About WhyQuit.com "The educational material, the why to quit material is applicable to everybody wanting to quit smoking, regardless of the method used. It's showing the importance of quitting." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHDXFchkMA0 Joel's Goals For The Resources He Produces To Help People Quit Smoking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elnHQdIq4Bo

lol That's funny about the buzzards. Hey, newsflash Joe. Mother nature knows no age when it comes to running. We were at a color run last weekend and there were dudes who looked like they were 70 who cruised the thing far ahead of much younger people. You can get into the best shape of your life at your age. I'm not saying that an Olympic runner is going to be in better shape at 70 than he/she was at 23, but for the rest of us, we can achieve great gains in the cardio department. I'm also not saying that we can pack on muscle like a 20 year old but we can get our tickers in fantastic shape, buzzards not withstanding. lol :) I have issues with my back and hip and and overall don't care for running which is why I only run for 30 minutes as fast as I can to get it over with. I much prefer biking as it's much easier on my back. -
NOPE, I will not be smoking today.

Welcome, Vic! My late Grandfather's middle name was Victor so cool name. :) It's not a very common name these days so whenever I hear it I'm reminded of find memories with him. You're at the perfect age to quit smoking. Now is the time. Make this your last quit because at your age, you're going to be able to reverse most if not all of the damage that you've done by smoking. If sometime told me most of the damage I've done could be reversed I'd take it in a heartbeat! People who've never smoked can't have any idea what we go through as smokers and as non-smokers as we learn to live our lives not smoking. It definitely is a change but it's all good. There is not one single bad thing about quitting smoking but there is not one good thing about smoking. Smoking is all bad. Every bit of it, despite the lies that it relaxes you, helps you deal with stress and all that nonsense the your inner junkie wants you to believe. Stay as active as you can around here. Post what you're going through, your thoughts, feelings, fears, accomplishments and of course, advice. Just because you're starting a new quit doesn't mean that you don't have anything to offer the rest of us so post and post often. PS, your English is fine and even if it wasn't, doesn't matter around here. We're like a melting pot of smokers and non-smokers from around the world. :)

Welcome, Tom! Every single day that I smoked (every time I smoked most likely) I felt guilty because I knew I was robbing my children of time with me not only in the present, but also in the future as I was certain to succumb to an early death. The moment that I put out my last death stick is the moment that burden was lifted. When you put out your last cigarette you instantly become a non-smoker. You're giving your 3 children the thing they want more than anything; their Dad to quit smoking and be around them for many, many more years. The best place for a smoker to be is right here. There is no requirement to be smoke-free for membership. Lots of people want to quit and that's all that matters. The only situation a smoker would be turned away from this sight is if some marketing executive from Philip Morris was here advertising their death sticks. Gotta draw the line somewhere, right? :) We have some really good documentaries to watch to help keep your mind occupied, games to play in the Socializing forum and all sorts of craziness from members here who will help keep you grounded and on the right path. Not to mention of course the great advice and listening ears from people who truly care about your quit. Feel free to start your own blog, post whenever or wherever you wish, share how you're feeling (the good the bad and the ugly) and of course if you feel like you might slip up and smoke, please post an S.O.S. and wait for members to respond. All of the moderators get a copy of the SOS sent directly to their phones and many members do as well. No matter what we're doing, an S.O.S. isn't confined to whoever is on the forums at the time. No matter where we're at or what we're doing, we'll get the message come to help. This is your forum. Please use it and take advantage of it to rid yourself of this deadly addiction. :)

There is a huge difference this time for you. It's in your words and the way you're processing this quit. You're identifying the junkie thinking and then instantly debunking the lie with truth. You're going to make it and you're going to be comfortable being a non-smoker. :)

Welcome, SanDar! This will be your final quit. :)

First of all Tiffany, you're not going anywhere I know that you're not going to smoke. You're in the middle of it right now. You're in the fight of your life, for your life. Everybody's quit is different which is what makes a support group work. If we all had the same exact experiences, this would be a snooze fest of epic proportions. Some people need support to stop addictions, help their marriages, help themselves in the workplace, deal with grief etc. while others do just fine by themselves. For me, I've learned to share my feelings and talk to people rather than keep it in. Here, you're among friends who understand. We understand this addiction and will support you even when you don't think you can do it anymore. We will never, ever give up. There is no expiration date on support. I'm addicted to caffeine just as I am addicted to nicotine. Caffeine probably won't kill be must smoking certainly would, sooner or later. No matter what you're struggling with, you can't smoke because it will kill you. If you think that being an addict is a label, or worse yet a stereotype, that notion couldn't be farther from the truth. Again, you're in the fight of your life right now so don't give an inch. Never give a God damn inch.--The Stamper Family from Oregon
