  5. Rod Serling was in interesting man. I remember as a kid watching an episode of Night Gallery that scared the crap out of me. To this day I remember a scene of lady or a guy drowned in a bathtub. Creepy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8sT6nz7VUM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wfazePQzj8
  6. OMG hahahahaha Rez and Ava lol
  7. Just wanted to wish everybody a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Holidays or whatever you choose to celebrate or not. I understand we all have different beliefs and celebrate all sorts of different things but please stay safe on the roads and draw near to those you love. Even if the miles separate you from the ones you love, find a way to reach out to them and if that's not possible, think fondly of them and look forward to seeing them again. Hug your kids, pets or whatever you can and be thankful for each day we have on this earth. Be thankful for the freedom we have from nicotine addiction. For those of you who don't see many bright spots right now or feel alone, you have friends here. We're open 24/7 and I'm always popping in and out of this place. If you need an ear to listen, I have a phone and don't mind giving out the number to help. Whatever you do, if you're feeling depressed, please reach out to somebody even if it's that dude in Maryland who quit smoking. :)
  8. As you know better than anybody, the memories are still going to be there with or without cigarettes. I'm not going to lecture you because I'm quite sure you've given yourself a few of your own already. However, you have asthma and everything else aside, that alone is reason enough to never smoke again. You can't smoke anymore, Evelyn, unless you're ready to commit to spending the rest of your life enslaved to smoking. One of these times you may not quit and that was a scary reality for me when I relapsed. The pull of the addiction was stronger than it ever had been and I had only relapsed for one week. It literally scared the living daylights out of me. Now, onward and upward. No need to dwell on the past because what's done is done and there are no do-overs. You had 3 months and gave it up for 3 cigarettes. I think it's time for a little "Yo Elliot!" He is speaking about eating healthy but it's so relevant to smoking it's well worth watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEnHzV9XpL0

  11. I don't know how but I ran across some of these with Ah-nold and had forgotten how hilarious they are. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTne4kXGwUc
  12. What happened?
  13. I'll join you! NOPE!
  14. Great message, Joe. :) I don't remember having a tough time quitting and as I remember it, I instantly noticed that I felt better. Although I had cravings as I was ridding my lungs, heart, blood and brain of nicotine and tar (+ 6800 other chemicals), I instead focused on how much more calm I was without the constant spike in blood pressure and the huge shot of adrenaline that came with each cigarette. The Stop Smoking Benefits Timetable is something that grabbed onto and kept it close in the early days.
  15. Glad things got better after your chat, Jen. How are you today? Hopefully this finds you aware and committed. Just out of curiosity, where are you with the reading and watching the videos here on the forum about nicotine addiction? As you read and watch the materials, you'll train your mind and get a fresh perspective on the drug we're all addicted to and even start to see changes in your own quit. Difference between physical and psychological urges Video discusses how while the intensity between the psychological thoughts for cigarettes weeks or months into your quit may feel very much like the physical urges you may have encountered in the beginning of your quit, that there is an important difference in the two states. http://youtu.be/_A8s7Pw7jA0 Fixating on a cigarette Video discusses how people often fixate on the desire to have "a good" cigarette. http://youtu.be/OZLJ_nlkUCQ
  16. Post your stats here (just how many cigarettes you used to smoke per day). Great idea, action! http://www.quittrain.com/topic/3877-calling-all-members/?do=findComment&comment=105281
  17. Please post how many cigarettes you used to smoke per day so I can make a community ticker to track how many cigarettes as a group we've not smoked. Not sure what I'll use as a quit date for the ticker, maybe the day QT was created?? I love the idea action! I'll keep a running total as new members join etc. on a spreadsheet so it can be easily tracked and changed. MQ - 35
  18. CARL! STAY BACK WITH THE OTHERS!

  20. I'm German and my late Grandmother came over to the states after WWII and I never heard of this! My 10 year old boy loves pickles and perhaps I may start a new tradition this year and hide a pickle in the tree. :) Beautiful young ladies, Joe. Mine are 5 and 9 but I am not looking forward to when they want to start dating. I cried for the entire ceremony when my youngest (now 5) graduated from daycare. I cried when she got on the school bus for her first day of Kindergarten. When I see a boy start hanging around, I won't be cryin' no more I can tell you that! lol My wife and I don't quit see eye to eye on this issue and I have a feeling that there will be somewhat of a compromise where I basically don't get much of a say. ;) Oh well, that's a long way off. Now to find a pickle and on Christmas morning I'm going to break the news about the new tradition. :) They already think I'm nuts now I'll just have to convince them that there really is a pickle in the tree. lol
  21. First, you need to take care of yourself after what happened to you. I can't even begin to imagine. If I can do anything to help, please reach out. You're not a coward at all. You went back to smoking because you still thought it was a safe place. We will work on that, together as a group. There is one way to immediately get rid of the nasty feeling of smoking and that is to become a non-smoker. The instant you put out your last cigarette you're a non-smoker. The very instant!! You have not failed any of us so please don't even allow yourself to entertain those thoughts. Okay? We're here to support you, not judge you or make you feel worse, especially after what you've been through. As you already know, smoking isn't making this situation any better. What do you think? You ready to take control of this? We're ready when you are. :) Until then, please stay close to your support group because we're here to help and really do care.
  22. I think early on some people equate quit forums with the constant thinking about smoking but you would do that anyway when you first quit. I've been quit over a year and this board in no way shape or form gets me to second guess my quit or losing it by taking a puff. Instead, it reminds me that I'll always be a nicotine addict and to never let my guard down for the day I forget is the day I put my quit in jeopardy. Complacency is a real killer. Some people use the board and then are off enjoying a smoke-free life and never look back. Good for them! They got what they needed and are enjoying this precious life once again. For some, a life they haven't known for many decades. Me, I'll be here for a long, long time until I either pass on or get too old to type and then hand the reigns over to some young whipper-snapper. ;) Stick around and join the rest of us as we take this part of our journey together. :)
  23. Great to see you. Sorry, but you haven't been quit since you joined this board. You had a few puffs a couple of times and most recently just a couple of weeks ago you took a puff, yeah it is a big shit because you relapsed. Sounds like the forum isn't a trigger at all because you relapsed at least twice during your absence. Perhaps if you were here you would have continued to learn about this addiction and how to beat it. You're playing with fire my friend and until you learn more, your doomed to repeat the past. We don't beat this addiction by being stronger than it. We beat it by being smarter than it. :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
