  1. I Will Control My Smoking Now One of the major reasons why some people relapse is because they have been off smoking a significant period of time and they begin to believe that they will now be able to control the way they will smoke. Video explains the full power of the grip that nicotine can take on an individual once it is administered and how they will likely end up smoking just as they had before and possibly even worse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kALov4eEK4w Related videos: The power of nicotine addiction https://youtu.be/TpYRrZG5l8A "Were you addicted" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWcTk... 2. Does It Take 21 Days To Break The Smoking "Habit"? A common misconception is that smoking is simply a habit and that if you can go 21 days without using you will break the habit . Video discusses how smoking is more than a habit, it is an addiction accompanied by associations with many events and activities encountered throughout life. Experience, not time is what is going to determine how long it is before you break all of the different associations that you may have with cigarettes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1v7o4q399s Related resources: Craves and thoughts that occur over time http://www.ffn.yuku.com/topic/207 Other related videos: Craves or thoughts that occur over time http://youtu.be/P7Z980ITCvk Will I ever stop thinking about smoking? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8310BI... 3. I'm almost finished with season 5. Piney was my favorite character. Never liked his son Opie though. At first I liked Gemma but can't stand her anymore. Hated Clay from the first episode. Hate Pope too. I think season 5 is a bit of a drag and liked the previous seasons better. Otto is an asshole. I do like Bobby though but had to shut if off today right when he pulled Clay aside and said he was going to help him save his life or something. RIP Piney
  4. I'm going to have to find it. Gotta do it for the club. SAMCRO lol
  5. I've been binge watching Sons of Anarchy. Pretty good flick. When does the DEAD come back? How long will this season last? I hate that they split it up.
  6. Now how can that pic of Beth not put a smile on your face?

  9. Beth will be going home on Friday. :) She's gonna feel like a new person.
  10. That's exactly what he is; a whiny little girl. And a cheat.
  11. Just heard from one of Beth's family members and she just got out of surgery and it went well. Beth is now in her room and her family will be with her shortly. I know that Beth really, really appreciated all the kinds words, support and prayers leading up to this. I'll post any updates as I get them. Please keep THE QUEEN     in your thoughts and prayers as she enters her recovery process. :)
  12. ...and that was frustrating because my rational brain KNEW that the "pleasure" of smoking was vastly over rated and mostly imaginary. I KNEW that I was romancing the cigarette and I really did not want to go back to smoking. But the seductive thoughts were there... http://www.quittrain.com/topic/4093-how-to-prevent-a-relapse/
  13. Perfect post. Perfect timing. :)
  14. Welcome, Oneistoo! We have a blog section to the site if you'd like to publish your own blog. Either way, it's good that you're keeping a journal because it will be invaluable as you get some time under your belt. We don't beat this addiction by being stronger than it. We beat it by being smarter than it. Learning about our addiction and "why we smoke" instead of "why we shouldn't smoke" makes a huge difference in whether we're happy non-smokers or non-smokers who feels like we're missing out on something. As you know, cigarettes don't benefit us in any way. Your past quits don't mean anything now, only this one does. You must treat this quit as the final one and protect it at all costs. You must keep it separate from life because life will always throw us a bunch of crap at times and we can't let life's woes influence our quits. Doing so only keeps us constantly quitting and then relapsing and in the mean time, we're doing more damage to our bodies. It has to come to a stop and education about this addiction will make the difference. Have you started watching Joel's videos from the beginning? I have them in some fashion of order, especially on the first few pages. Here's a couple of my favorite videos from Joel. Good Reasons To Take A Puff On A Cigarette After Having Quit Smoking For people who think that there are no good reasons to take a puff on a cigarette after quitting, and more importantly, for people who think that there might actually be good reasons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvHl-zwUdBo Related video: There is no legitimate reason to relapse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCm_5... Who Wants To Go Back To Smoking? 15. I remember back when I lived in Ohio they closed bridges and freeways because the President was coming through on his way from Cleveland to Pittsburgh. I remember thinking how cool it was that he was coming through the same streets that I drove everyday and I didn't even get to see anything but cops blocking everything. :) It's cool indeed to see The Commander in Chief, whoever that may be. Where I live and work now, it's commonplace and when he comes to the base I work at, it's just a pain because my routing gets interrupted. lol Cool pic and a good one at that. I saw where he was speaking at some community college there today.
  16. I know that I once smoked but have not had any cravings after the first week or so that I quit. In certain situations I will remember that in the past, I would have been smoking but it's when things are calm and I'm relaxed. Like looking out the window while the sun is coming up and just the way the sun is shining on a tree I'm looking at will remind me of another time in another place and I'll remember that I would have been smoking. When I have been the most stressed since I quit and trust me, full blown life-changing stress, smoking did not even cross my mind. When I smoked and was under any kind of stress (other than constantly going in and out of withdrawal) I would instantly reach for a smoke. Now when I'm under stress, I don't even think of smoking much less crave it or consider it. I guess to sum it all up I'll never forget that I smoked but picturing myself smoking must be like what I imagine waking up from a coma must feel like and starting to remember things. Lighting up is that far removed from my life. Knowing that I'm an ex-smoker will be something I carry with me everyday for the moment I forget could be the moment that one of the dreams about smoking perhaps wouldn't actually be a dream and instead be a grave mistake. With time, your mind with abandon the cravings and desire to smoke. As with most things in life, time heals. :)

  18. Hi Laura, I think these videos may help you understand why you built yourself up for failure convincing by yourself that you were going to spend your holiday craving a cigarette. Difference between physical and psychological urges Video discusses how while the intensity between the psychological thoughts for cigarettes weeks or months into your quit may feel very much like the physical urges you may have encountered in the beginning of your quit, that there is an important difference in the two states. http://youtu.be/_A8s7Pw7jA0 Fixating on a cigarette Video discusses how people often fixate on the desire to have "a good" cigarette. http://youtu.be/OZLJ_nlkUCQ "How long before I don't want a cigarette?" Video discusses how experience is what is going to dictate how long it is before you can do certain activities without smoking, not time. Covers some of the same concepts as smoking triggers filmed a few days before, but I believe more people will look up this title because it is a question often asked by people first quitting. http://youtu.be/CLp_ic5VgiI "Will I ever stop thinking of cigarettes?" Most people overestimate how much of a battle staying smoke free will be once they quit smoking. This video discusses how people will generally stop thinking about smoking, and much sooner than they usually think. http://youtu.be/8310BI-euJw
  19. Perfectly brewed coffee for me. Nothing less. Impossible for more.
  20. Happy Birthday!!! Must be with babs celebrating? Casinos? lol
  21. Smoking in the car with my kids in the backseat thinking that they couldn't smell it or inhale any of it because I had the window open at just the right amount knowing that all the smoke was escaping. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

  24. Tobacco smoke contains a deadly mix of more than 7000 chemicals and at least 70 of those chemicals are known to cause cancer and at least 250 are known to be harmful. http://www.quittrain.com/topic/4-do-you-have-any-idea-what-youre-smoking-a-list-of-chemicals/
  25. And this is why it's so important to keep coming back because often times all it takes is reading the right post to get you back on course. Oh, the first thing I do each morning is grab a cup of perfectly brewed coffee and pull up the forum. So much better than going outside and having all that smoke in your eyes, not to mention the ruining of a perfectly brewed cup. :) I pledge to remain here for many, many years. I had another forum for 12 years and that was just a niche automotive forum for fun. This forum has a purpose and means everything to me so guess how long we will be in cyberspace? Much, much longer than 12 years. Besides, I spent a lot of time and effort to register this trademark so QuitTrain® is going nowhere.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
