  1. But wait, big brother is going to get involved, nationally. "Briant said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recently completed a study on age and smoking and will soon present its findings. He said Congress may then set a national age limit for tobacco use, so cities should wait before acting on their own." Interesting read here with some background info as well. The good old FDA. The lovely folks in Congress.
  2. Video discusses how smoking cannot solve stress, and in actuality usually results in making people more nervous in general than if they were former smokers or had never smoked in their lives. http://www.quittrain.com/topic/4754-videos-addressing-relapse-prevention/?p=130102
  3. You've been quit for 5 days and don't even think about smoking anymore? Am I misunderstanding? You're not in any position to ask members to PM you to solicit your help in quitting smoking. You have 5 days under your belt, you should be asking for help and reading/watching/posting here on the boards to learn how to make this quit stick. Those early in their quits need to be seeking advice from those who have long quits going, not those with less than a week, yourself included. Why a private message? Support should be given on the discussion boards to help everybody, especially the lurkers who are still on the fence about quitting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtClWuFdeIA&app=desktop At times people join up at Internet quit smoking sites, announce they are serial quitters and express the hope that they can now get help to quit and also help others who are now quitting. Video explains why these are the last people that new quitters should be looking to for help or advise on how to quit smoking. P.S. I've removed your own advertisement in your signature. That is not allowed here.
  4. Incredible! Congrats on the weight loss and the little one coming!
  5. Welcome! Please know that things are rarely as bad as we make them out to be and quitting smoking is no different. Some people complain of having a rough time, others find it non-burdensome and some fit somewhere in the middle. I can tell you this, if you focus on the benefits of quitting (yes, there are immediate physical benefits) you'll be a much more happy quitter as compared to a regretful quitter who is constantly struggling with thinking about wanting to smoke. Embrace "the suck"(borrowed from Sarge) and make an unwavering decision to never take another puff on a cigarette for the rest of your life. This personal commitment is something that you'll need to keep separate from all other things going on in your life. No matter what happens (good or bad) there is no valid reason to smoke unless of course you want to spend the rest of your life smoking, suffering and a cloud of regret for not quitting years prior (the here and now). Although I could never advocate continuing smoking under any circumstance, I see that you have a quit date for the 18th which is the day our taxes are due. Easy date to remember! There are many benefits to quitting cold turkey but ultimately, the choice is yours. Many people here have used some form of NRT but please know that you are in fact delaying nicotine withdrawals because the goal is to completely get off of nicotine. I never used any form of NRT but I did use Wellbutrin prescribed by my doctor to help me. It worked VERY well. There is more information in my profile about this. I would recommend that you immediately start watching the series of videos addressing issues early in your quit. This is a good place to start. Stay close to this board and be as active as your able to be on the boards. Lots and lots of support here from many people who have long quits under their belts. There isn't anything that any of us haven't experienced regarding quitting smoking. "All of us are smarter than one of us". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHx12A8-mFg
  6. Front and center. :)
  7. Welcome aboard, Carlos!
  8. Sgt. Barney quit first run out of the gate. Many others have as well. I wasn't one of them, but there are plenty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzA2zgpYIBw Smokers are constantly told that they have to quit multiple times before they are likely to succeed. This video explains that while the majority of smokers do have many failed attempts before pulling off a successful quit, it is not inevitable that this will occur. There is one thing that any smoker can do to make their current quit the one that lasts forever. Related videos: -"Don't let a slip put you back to using" -Is relapse a natural part of the addiction process? -If this is your first time quitting -Is relapsing on nicotine a good learning experience -"I know too much about smoking to ever be able to relapse" Note: Original one day title of this video was "Smokers have to quit multiple times before they will succeed." Reason being, it was recorded and released on April 1. It is a message that could be interpreted as an April Fool's joke, yet unfortunately it is a title that is believed by most professionals in the tobacco control field.
  9. Copy the "direct link" to the image that you want to post. Come to QT and start a thread or respond in a thread (it doesn't matter, the same options) and click the image of the picture in the tool bar in this box and just paste the url (the direct link you copied from Photobucket, click ok and the you're done. You can also have your own gallery here on QuitTrain and can upload your photos there. Once uploaded, all you have to do is choose from your media files in your gallery to place them in any post. :)
  10. GR8 job, Judi!!!!! :beach:
  11. Awesome update! Congrats on everything as you're out and about enjoying your life. That's what this is all about!!! Thank you for dropping by. :)
  12. Karen, These are difficult times for sure and nobody knows that better than you. What you're going through and what you're feeling are temporary and I say that because there is always a solution; medication can always be adjusted, changed etc. The important thing is that you don't entertain the notion that smoking will solve any of this because as we all know, it can't and it never will. Stay strong! :) Quitting Smoking & Mental Health Video discusses how most people experience minor emotional reactions when first quitting, but also how people with pre-existing mental health issues may need physician assistance in dealing with problems that seem to be exacerbated after quitting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ysFk0-pQ3A Medication Adjustments That May Be Necessary After Smoking Cessation Video discusses how many medications that were prescribed to people while they were still smoking may need to be adjusted after they quit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cILrIM3PQPY Going Back To Normal After Quitting Smoking Video discusses how after quitting smoking a person will eventually get back to normal. Normal does not mean going back to the normal they experienced when they were smoking but more accurately, what they were like before they ever took up smoking with effects of aging now thrown in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUKBBcZ26BQ
  13. Most people expressing this sentiment are simply rationalizing their smoking in order to protect their nicotine addiction--a process that if not reversed can end up costing the smoker his or her health and life. http://www.quittrain.com/topic/4753-videos-addressing-issues-early-in-your-quit/?p=172661
  14. That will suck. Totally. Suck.
  15. Me either Nancy. Me either.
  16. They will probably leave us hanging like they did with Glenn and the dumpster fiasco. If Reedus buys the farm, I wonder what his next show is - sounds like it was his choice t leave the show. "The Boondock Saints" was a fantastic movie. :)
  17. That's what I was assuming. Do you think that Daryl will be killed off since the rumor is that he's starting another show and will not be returning to TWD?
  18. In last night's episode the savior's basically said they were all Negan but at the end, the guy on the motorcycle said he was Negan but Jeffrey Dean Morgan was supposed to play that role. How many episodes are left in this season?
  19. I thought Negan was going to be played by some other guy. Was that really Negan who they killed?
  20. Okay, you smoked. You've perched yourself on the branch of dissatisfaction long enough so get back to the business of quitting, NOW. Not tomorrow, not Monday, not next month and certainly not when you "think" you're ready. Don't Let A Slip Put You Back To Using Video stresses the importance of drawing a clear line in the sand regarding the issue of whether or not to take a puff. Another alternate title for for this video could have been "should I reset my quit meter?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cfxzB804S4&index=3&list=PL4F05C03D0F9B86DB The Lucky Ones Get Hooked Video discusses how not all people who take a cigarette after quitting instantly get hooked--only the lucky ones do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8XvSiHmlQ8&index=2&list=PL4F05C03D0F9B86DB If I Relapse I'll Smoke Until It Kills Me Video discusses how people better take heed if they ever find themselves thinking or saying the phrase "If I relapse I'll smoke until it kills me" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCRLo94FrLI&list=PL4F05C03D0F9B86DB&index=5 Who Wants To Go Back To Smoking? Video discusses how former smokers at times think they want to go back to smoking, but if they really remind themselves of the package deal that goes along with being a smoker, it will be easy for them to stick to their quit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG9qGjf2hd8
  21. Welcome aboard, Glenn! Let's make this quit your last - the one that counts. Stick with us don't give another damn inch to this deadly addiction! :)
  22. When junkie thinking shows up, remember these words from Sarge after our Beth passed away. "GreenLover - you made it. All the way to the end as a non-smoker. A true Lifer."--Sarge She died a non-smoker. I knew that there was no way that I wanted to die a smoker. That there was no way I wanted my daughter to find me in the garage, dead with a cigarette in my hand. That very well could have been my reality. I didn't want that for me or her. When I go, I'll follow the way of Beth and go out as a non-smoker. End of story. :) http://whyquit.com/joel/Joel_01_01_junkie.html

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
