  1. Awesome post, Bassman. This explains quite well why it can be more difficult to keep a quit than initially start one. It's all the triggers that you mention. The changing of the seasons is always a big one for me. It's the little things that you mentioned that when we experience them for the first time as a non-smoker seem HUGE because it's the good memories that we have from when we were smokers. We interlace the two together because smoking was a part of everything we did and often times, our lives revolved around that next cigarette. I guess we just have to separate the good things from our past from smoking because the good things had nothing to do with physical act of smoking. It's just that we had to smoke to keep feeding the addiction while we were experiencing all the wonderful things that life can bring. How better it is enjoying all of these things and not be weighted down with having to smoke and stinking everything up. Not to mention, being able to smell the crisp autumn air and enjoying the health benefits of not smoking. This post reminded of how important it is to remain aware of these triggers. Thanks, Bassman.
  2. Along with all the fine passengers, the tickets and coffee are free. No swill served on the Quit Train. B)
  3. Well Soozie, I guess it's easier to quit being a smoker than it is to quit being a klepto (lighter thief). hahahahaha :) That's awesome news because since you can be in a pub around smokers and not light up, there's no reason to ever smoke again. Job well done!! PS, you're now the official non-smoking lighter thief. If anybody board this train with a lighter, steal it! :) hehe
  4. Hi DJ!! Glad to see you. :)
  5. Myself and the moderators are immediately alerted each time a post is created in this forum. Hopefully this will help safeguard against an SOS falling through the cracks, which is the LAST thing any of us want to happen.
  6. Fixed! Once you click the "blog" tab, hit the "create blog" and it will walk you through the set up process. :)
  7. Julie can put all of her stuff in her blog and it will be seen by more people and much easier organized. Lot's of cool things to do with a blog. I agree, Julie has a ton of knowledge to help people. Not much smoking either, about life in general. If you guys don't like the blog option we can set up something that works better for you. :)
  8. I opened up the Blog section of the site so any member who wants to keep their own quit journal or blog, has the ability to do so. You can link to threads etc. Lots of cool stuff to do with the blogs. Let me know if anybody has any issues creating any. All permissions should be in order. :)
  9. Let me double check it again and make sure something didn't revert back to a previous setting.
  10. Hi Craig! Thanks for stopping by and for the kind words. That blog and all that stuff on it used to be private and only viewable to myself. It was a way to hold myself accountable make sure that I read did something everyday to work on my quit when I was participating on any online support groups. Yeah, all that stuff to keep my mind busy. lol Again, thank you for your kind words. :)
  11. As long as it loads, you're good to go. :)
  12. I know one person is having trouble getting it load and am curious if anybody else is experiencing any issues. Thanks!--MQ
  13. I would tell him to first just stop smoking and then point him here so we can all help him. Remove the desire smoke and it becomes much easier. Suggest Allen Carr etc. George, I think you know more than you think about quitting. I think your words of wisdom how you were able to quit will go a long way with your friend. He asked you because he wants your help. :)
  14. http://quittrainblog.com/ Lots of current news about big tobacco as well as all of the criminal depositions etc. Of course all of the quit smoking resources as well. It's part of this message board.
  15. Thanks for responding and for your honesty. You're going to beat this addiction because you're honest with yourself. Now for some truths about smoking...and life. Smoking elevates your heart rate and floods your body with adrenaline. Add this on top of the normal stress that you're dealing with and you're stress levels probably triple. I have some problem of sorts every single day. Some days stressed to max. I'm married with 3 young kids. Nuff said! lol You're going to think about smoking, especially when you're stressed but you don't have to smoke and compound your stress. Stay close to this board and make the pledge each day. People here are looking out for you. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVEyGdqwjmQ
  16. A-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
  17. I knew that I didn't want to be a smoker for the rest of my life, but knew it was possible if I didn't quit. Since I knew that my plans for the future didn't include smoking, I figured the sooner the better. I felt so much guilt knowing what I was doing to my body every time I looked at my kids. I quit for me and my kids. No more guilt!!! Total freedom.
  18. I'm gonna find a smiley wearing a kilt just for you el bandito! lol
  19. Yes, we're a little short on the smiley list. lol I'll add a ton of them once we get some things done on the admin side. So, in the near future, you'll see more smilies and freaky emoticons than you can shake a stick at. :)
  20. Please put the hockey stick down and slowly back away. lol Last night Nancy brought to my attention that she was having the same issue and when I checked, the box was checked to have a mod approve all events. I changed this so everybody can add whatever they want and use it freely. I will check again and make sure that I'm not missing anything. FYI, if you fill in your birthday in your profile (you don't have to put the year) it will automatically be added to the calendar. Right now, the quit dates although can be added in your profile, are not automatically picked up by the calendar. I'm working on getting this written so it will work. Please keep me posted of any issues with the calendar so I can get them fixed. Thanks for putting down the hockey stick.

  23. Awesome video. Added to the newbie package.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
