  9. Welcome aboard, @LoriB. And congrats on your 24-day quit! It’s good that you’re seeking out positive reinforcement here and thinking ahead about triggers that lie ahead. Those are two good ways to protect your quit. Addiction is a wily opponent, though, and it will try to pounce on you when you’re vulnerable, or try to rationalize that just an occasional vape here and there won’t hurt. Don’t fall for that hogwash! Stay strong, stay free. You’ll be glad you did.

  14. Just wanted to introduce myself. I just joined tonight. A health scare prompted my quit on 05/30/2024. The first 6 days I was in the hospital with plenty to think about and I really didn't miss vaping. But now I'm home, nobody else home with me, and I find myself thinking about it more. I quit cigarettes probably 7 years ago and started vaping. Thought it was "better" for me. But I know better than that in reality. I am 61 years old, and just found out last Monday that I will be unemployed on 8/12/24. I'm afraid that will be a trigger for me as well. The company I have worked for for 42 years is closing. I look forward to any and all advice and help that you all have to offer. My brother in law quit a few years ago using this site, and he recommended it to me.

  18. Hey everyone, The site was down, but I didn't quit. Although I must say, it was and still is quite difficult at times. However, it has now been nearly 17 days since June 6, 2024, when I finally succeeded in quitting. I feel amazing. I mean, I sleep less, I am more confident, I do lots of things, and I believe the addiction is getting weaker day by day. It still requires some struggling and inner discussions from time to time. But convincing myself to go and buy a smoke after 16 days without it is much harder than it was after just one day, so I guess this also plays a role in weakening this demon. So, yeah, let's keep going, guys!

  19. Here's the place we ate dinner twice It's called Steamers in downtown Saint John; N.B. That's our waiter; behind the bar working hard for us Another view of the interior. You can see the mini Lobster Pound (where they keep circulating sea water in a series of white & turquoise tubs to keep the lovely critters alive and healthy until you order one. Then it's for the poor Lobster and for you!) The stacked shallow tubs are where the little critters live. You can go up & pick your own if you like The local beer is called "Moosehead". It's brewed in Saint John by the Oland family. My dad was good friends way back when with Paul Oland, one of the sons of the original start-up owner. I'll say it's similar to a Coors Light; which some of you may be familiar with. Moose Light is their "light" version of Moosehead. Now for the food features Lobster Roll with the best french fries I've had in a long, long time. Don't know what they coat them with but Oh So Yummy! There's NO filler in the Lobster Roll. Just tender, juicy Lobster, fresh from the ocean with a little mayo mixed in on a lightly toasted roll (OMG; I'm making myself hungry again These Bacon Wrapped Scallops are no sloutch either! The scallops are sooo tender! I've never had melt in my mouth scallops before and the perfectly cooked bacon wrapped tightly around the scallops ... I don't know how they do it but they're absolutely amazing They don't look like much but a cup of seafood chowder & 6 of these golden nuggets of heaven and you'll want for nothing else! Well, maybe another cocktail?

  21. Nicotine is an addiction. 100% Never doubt it. We sacrifice our health, deprioritize our loved ones, waste our money, waste our time - all to get our next fix. We smoke through illnesses and organize our lives around when and where we smoke - all to get our next fix. We try to quit but sabotage ourselves, then writhe in shame - all to get our next fix. We fundamentally alter our brain chemistry to rely on one particular stimulant, diminishing our ability to experience joy from other things - all to get our next fix. We minimize how much we smoke (or lie about it or hide it) - all to get our next fix. And when we don’t get that fix, our hands shake. Our soul screams, the world goes upside down. But only for a little while. If we hold tight to our quits, recovery begins. Healing (emotional and physical) happens. And a precious new freedom becomes ours. No more bondage, no more shame. Never ever doubt the power of this addiction… but never ever doubt the power of quitting, either.

  22. Safe travels @Reciprocity, I'm glad so many of your family members could be together to say goodbye to the family matriarch. I'm a lobster lover too. Unfortunately though the prices are ridiculous.

  23. My condolences again to you and your family on your mom's passing. I'm sure she was a lovely lady! Oh St. John must be a seafood lover's paradise! Did you have lobster? I love lobster, it's my favorite food. We went to Maine 3 times and I had lobster every single night on each trip. I can't get enough of it!! Yummy!!! Have a safe trip back home!

  24. Hi @LoriB, welcome aboard our train full of quitters. Congratulations on being done with your nicotine addiction once and for all ☺. We have a ton of information to educate yourself including a forum on vaping so be sure to take a look around. Most people start with the pinned threads.

  25. Welcome @LoriB You are doing a great thing in quitting vaping and you did a great thing in quitting smoking several years ago. I am sorry for your health scare and i hope things get better. My last year or two as a smoker, I tried to quit by switching to vaping and e-cigs, thinking that it was somehow better than smoking regular tobacco cigarettes. I made three misguided attempts to switch over, each lasting a few weeks, and I grew to think I was actually vaping more than I was smoking. I actually got weird feelings in my gums and sharp headaches that I didn't experience with smoking. It would not surprise me if sometime down the line , it is determined that vaping is just as bad, if not worse, than regular smoking.....that is just my opinion. Anyway, it is best to leave both the vapes and smokes behind. I am sorry to hear about your potential layoff from your job in the upcoming months but vaping, or smoking, will not make anything better. Stick around this site and continue to reach our for help when you need it. I am not going to ask who your bother in law is (unless you care to share) but he made a good decision in recommendiing you to come here. We are a somewhat odd bunch but we really belive in helping others kick the nicotine habit once and for all. Life is much better without nicotine.

  26. In Saint John New Brunswick since late Thursday, we’ll; turned into early Friday morning with flight delays Didn’t hit the bed at the hotel until almost 5:00 AM & had meetings at 11;00 AM & 11:30 AM. Went for Mom’s funeral, which was delayed a month so everybody’s schedule could match up. 9 out of 10 Grandchildren showed up from all across Canada. That tells you how well loved Gramma was We’ve been meeting up for dinner every night since Friday & tonight’s the last supper, so to speak. Of course, they’ve all been at seafood places because we’re right by the ocean! Hard on the wallet but yummy, yummy, yummy in the tummy Flying back home tomorrow afternoon. Will check in then for the major celebrations

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
