  1. Well. Just got back from a heart procedure after 2 major attacks, (again). In my heart looking around and nothing accomplished.... came home after days of bull-shit. Wife picked me up in the smokey car with her cigs in her purse, got home to have 2 thought's of smoking last night!!! Being pissed off at the system and exposed in the vehicle caused these thoughts that really haven't been present or powerful in a very long time.. Dam addiction and that fricking demon... Being a heart patient that is always close to attacks and the certainty of death from smoking is and has been a great deterrent for the cravings. But the smoking bitch was even now trying to work on me. This is about a month of being attacked from all sides with physical and sickness issues, then that demon bastard decides to raise its lowly head and test my resolve.. WTF Guaranteed I will win the battle but even testing me has me pissed off. Always remember depression, and anger can open the door to thoughts of defeat and allow that Demon bastard a foothold. So be truthful to yourself, alert and always find some happiness. Even during extremes there is a thought process or activity that can lead you to a smile. Find it!!!! Don't worry.......Be Happy.. Ok done with the rant, going to my cabin to sit by the river and watch Cooper, my golden, take a swim. Everyone KTQ Cheers Stew.

  3. Best of luck to you Stew as you are doing great with your quitting journey!! I know the Nicodemon shows it's nasty head at times when we are under stress. I still get the crave once in a while as well. We just have to stay strong!! Yeah, I hope your wife quits too. My husband quit several years before me, back in 2017 or 2018, but now we are both non smokers and it's made life easier because of it in some ways. Best of luck to you always!!

  4. I have full confidence in your dersire & ability to kick the Nicodemon's ass Stew! That's one hallmark of nicotine addiction that pisses me off the most. That bastard Nicodemon just lies in wait for stressful moments in life to descend on us then he rears his ugly head trying to undo all the good work we've done to quit. Not fair in the least!! Kick him in the nuts Stew & be done with him!!

  5. Hello, I finished my first clean week. This is an incredible achievement for me. Energy Level Changes: First 5 Days: I was full of energy. I could read all the news, go to the gym, run, work, sleep for only 4 hours, and talk all the time. Day 6: I experienced huge cravings and spent the whole day thinking I might fail. However, I still went to the gym and replaced the craving with some burgers and a good night's sleep. Day 7: My energy crashed. The weather in Prague was changing every 20 minutes, alternating between rain and sunshine. I ended up sleeping after lunch. I even considered deleting this account to avoid wasting time, but I reconsidered because I feel I might be able to help others in the future. I went to sleep early and woke up today at 8 AM, which is the longest sleep I've had since day 0. Summary: I am now 7 days, 13 hours, and 27 minutes clean and still going strong. TGIF!

  6. Back from my cabin, Cooper is wet and I am relaxed. Something from my Angina group kind of emulates our quitters environment also.

  7. Great post, Stew. I especially liked this part. Always try to find something positive because the negativity can really drag you to bad things. Wishing you the best with your health issues and hoping your wife can see you as a positive role model and at least consider quitting herself. Best wishes

  10. In all seriousness; mid-Oct in Toronto is a mixed bag. You can expect anything from warm & sunny to cool and damp. There's almost a zero percent chance of seeing any snow. Probably not that much different than NY only a bit cooler? If you get lucky and we get what they call an Indian Summer, which is quite possible that time of year, it can be one of the nicest times of the year because it's not too hot & the summer humidity has gone for the year. You kind of have to pack clothing for either possibility. You won't need a winter coat or gloves and what not but you'll want both short & long sleeve tops for daytime & a light jacket or coat for when the sun goes down. More of a long pants season by then unless you hit a warm spell; then a pair of shorts may be in order for daytime wandering around. Are you flying or driving in?

  13. There is nothing like the feeling you get after a great rant. I proud of you Stew for sticking to your guns. Then there is the great feeling as well when you flip off the nicodemon saying " not today bitch".

  14. Yes, we will be driving. Since it's about a 10 hour drive from NY City to Toronto, we are thinking of doing the drive there and back stopping over for the night around Corning, NY or somewhere in the Finger Lakes region. Even though I will be doing part of the drive, it will still be long. If we do it in one day, we would get into Toronto late and be very tired by the time we get there. I actually don't mind the cooler weather, as I really don't like the heat and humidity. I will check the weather about 5 days before we leave. Do you know if there are Ubers, or some sort of rideshare in the downtown area? I haven't made any reservations in the hotel yet, but when I do, it will have to have a garage so we can keep the car in there and take Ubers to some places. Or maybe just drive to the sights and park in a garage. Since the US$ is good against the C$ it won't be too expensive. The number one sight we are going to do is the Hockey Hall of Fame. My husband is a Huge NY Rangers fan so we will probably spend one whole day there...Ugh!! LOL!! I have been to Toronto a couple times, but I was a teenager and that was many many years ago!! I would also like to go to the CN Tower and Ripley's Aquarium. Do you think it's worth it to have dinner at the CN Tower or is it a tourist trap? I think we will stay in Toronto 4 nights. If you can recommend other places to go, that would be great!! Thanks! We might even stop at Niagara Falls on the way back for a few hours. I have been there a few times as well, but it's been a really long time. Thanks for your help!

  20. When I was still on the quitting/failing/quitting/failing merry go round, I didn’t realize that smoking made me feel worse, not better. Stepping off that cycle is hard, but you’ll be so proud of yourself when you do - and you will cherish your freedom. I like your note that you will need to do something different this coming Sunday. Make a plan and stick to it. Be especially vigilant any time you are HALTed… Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired. We (ab)used nicotine to take the edge off those feelings, and they can be big triggers. Quitting is a time of experimenting with new responses, not relying on smoking to pickle our feelings. Try again - you CAN do this!

  23. Nice work @Dejvis93! That's the hardest week of all and it's now in your past. Keep moving forward. You've got too much invested to give up now. Still one day at a time and you'll make it to your goal!

  25. Ack!! That line of storms looks like something you would see out in Tornado Alley in the Midwest US, not in Ontario. Btw, what type of weather will be in Toronto the 2nd week of October because my husband and I will be going there. Is it cold then, any snow that time of year?

  26. Thanks for all the help again people, most appreciated. I will use the stuff you have mentioned when Sunday comes round again. It's the biggest hurdle for me to overcome. Something DenaliBlues said really hit home. In that having that ciggie because you think it will make you feel better and it actually makes you feel worse. So, so true.

  29. What does smoking to for you on Sunday night that you can't get without smoking? Is it a feeling that you are missing out on something? Is it just the habit / routine? Think hard about why you are smoking to understand what is causing you to fail your quit. You could also ask Doreen to come hit you with a frying pan.

  30. Do you know what triggered you to smoke at that particular time? If you can identify your triggers then you can better plan to avoid them although staying quit always comes down to commitment and sometimes sheer willpower just to get past some of the most challenging times of your early quit. Did you make sure you have no easy access to smokes when you first quit? That's a big one. You can smoke what you don't have!!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
