For me, what has kept me quit is my "Why?" Doing it for my kids or my general health wasn't enough. It took Covid's arrival to give me solid resolve. But my Why has changed. Covid is no longer the threat it was in the first year. Now, I see the positive results of almost fours of being quit, and there is no way I'd go back. The thousands of dollars I've saved is a motivator. I love seeing the dollars mount in my ticker when I post. My Why has also become not wanting any more health problems that I already have from smoking. "Why?" may change, but there has to be a big one in the beginning. It is important to remember that who we were - smokers - does not define who we can be now.5 points

i think craving is just a part of life. if it wasn't cigarettes you'd be craving something else so just relax and know that you are getting stronger everytime you beat the desire to cheat. after a time that crave will come and go and you will hardly notice it. For me that took about 10 months, but I was hating the world and everyone in it until that time had passed.5 points

i put on 40 lbs in 4 months. I pulled the pin on the fat grenade and blew the f*** up. So 5 lbs in 5 1/2 months isn't an issue. You are doing fantastic in your quit. I also used to get this tightness in the back of my throat when I was craving along with this feeling in the pit of my stomach like you get when you know you screwed up big time and there was no way to atone for it. What helped that was putting some sea salt in a glass of warm water and drinking it really helped with that.4 points

@QuittingGirl, yes, you are weird . I have to say I never had that feeling when i smoked but my tongue had a white coat on it from smoking and when i quit my tongue was sore as it restored itself back to red. As far as the weight gain goes most people do gain some weight but lose it again once they're secure in their quit. Don't worry about that for now as your main focus should be on quitting3 points

Ohhh and another question, when you all first quit did you put on weight? I think I put on at least 5 lbs in the 5 1/2 months being quit. I have been doing a lot of snacking and I do try to eat healthy snacks, (apples, veggies, that sort of thing), but sometimes I eat crackers and chips. My husband buys them and my willpower isn't very good. Although maybe it is, because I haven't had a cig in over 5 months.3 points

I gained a few pounds after quitting. It is common for people who are quitting smoking. Just remember,,, you can always lose weight, you can't lose cancer. The most important thing is to put smoking out of your life. You are doing great.2 points

The first month or so the cravings I got were in my mouth. It wasn't a pain, but it was a feeling in my mouth. Kind of hard to explain, but remember when you would smoke and put the cigarette in your mouth and the smoke would go over your tongue and into your mouth? Like my mouth and tongue wanted the cigarette again. Jill am I weird? LOL!!!2 points

You know what? I still get a very occasional thought that just enters my head for no apparent reason at a completely random time that makes me think ... "you should have a smoke!" Almost as soon as that thought occurs to me I laugh internally and just blow it off with absolutely NO effort. This maybe happens a couple times a year now? Just goes to show though that although we are confirmed quitters, we can never completely erase all memories of those addictive years.2 points

I don't get a craving everyday anymore and usually the ones I do are pretty mild now. But last week had a BIG one, I almost wonder if I had some smokes with me if I would have lit up .... it was really weird and strong. So consider being prepared for anything at anytime as best you can, that's what I am still doing.2 points

What do you mean by physical?1 point

If it's just a mental craving or thought, that I can deal with but the ones that I have been getting are physical. I'm just glad they don't last very long like in the beginning.1 point

@Kate18, try using the Other Media tab at the bottom right of the texting box and insert image from URL. That works for me unless its a YouTube video which I can just copy and paste into the text box. With the GIFs on my kindle i right click the one I want, open it in new tab and then copy the address of the new window that opens and paste that URL into the insert Other Media tab. Hope this helps you .1 point
