Wholly shit that was close!! I checked myself into the ER to have heart test's done of which I failed all. They did an emergency procedure to install another stent. The cardiologist's comment was the artery was at least 95% blocked and another heart attack was imminent. Close call. So 1 day out of the hospital my wife decides to let her alcoholism sneak into the day, stress out of site along with blood pressure and risking additional problems I stayed at my (phycologist) daughter's place. Came home yesterday and another argument ensued. Tried to go to my cabin but this proved to be too much activity. Came home and locked myself in the shop with my motorhome. So my wife still smokes in area's around the house. At about midnight with no real sleep for now a couple days I took a walk around the yard and found an area where her one puff butts were. Shit I guarantee if I had a lighter on me or in sight, I may have lit one up!!! I actually got back in the shop and was half looking for a lighter, I felt something needed to give then went in the Motorhome and sat flipped on the tv and the urge subsided.... This is the very condition's how I lost my last quit. I am ok today and back in my right mind, but the conditions and the addiction were so very strong. I know that time under the belt is key and how far I've come is more than I want to lose along with the heart and life itself being threatened by cigarettes but WHOLLY SHIT that sneaky addiction sombitch. Yes, this morning I went out and threw her butts in a bucket of water sifted the water and dumped the little bucket and everything in the garbage. Moral of the story may be to NEVER believe you are too strong and that you have total control, because the second you let your guard down and start junk thinking is the second the addiction could sneak back into your life. Remember it only takes one!!!6 points

Jillar thank you to the bestest bunny. Yea a 45 year relationship along with a 38 year marriage and 2 children. Pretty much it's a 10-12 year challenge chasing the past wonderful life and trying to help her disease. Problem over the last years has been keeping secure my children's inheritance. But death from stress is a worse prospect. Ya know looking back when you and Stew the Basket Case first talked (September 8th 2016), as you know this issue was there then. Einstein said the explanation of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Well that's a good definition for what i do. I could apply this to the smoking addiction for myself and my previous quits and also trying to chase the past with my wife's addictions. It is always going to be the person themselves that needs the convictions to quit any addiction. Input from others is a benefit but the root has to start within.6 points

Yeah, the addiction is sneaky and strong. You did well for fighting through this. This was a big victory and your quit is stronger because of it. Fight through these struggles. It does get better.6 points

Glad to hear you avoided caving to the crave. Unexpected upsets are always a very dangerous thing when they occur early in our quit process because our mind automatically goes to "Gotta have a smoke!!" Of course we all know that having that smoke under those circumstances only destroys your quit and does nothing to help what ever it is that's going off the rails in real life. Smoking is never the answer. The good news is that once you've been through something like this and managed to get through without smoking, you'll not be in such a panic next time something happens. Getting through situations like this truly make your quit stronger - Good Job Stew!5 points

Great positive attitude @MLMR. I especially love the gratitude. It’s one of the biggest differences between abstinence and true recovery. Let the healing begin.5 points

@Stewbum , sorry to hear about your health and nightmare night. You should be so proud of yourself you did not smoke after all that stress and the urge being as strong as you describe! Each time we pass the test it gets a little easier? (I hope!) I agree with you, we can't allow any wiggle room for complacency to settle in. Celebration well deserved for pushing through this.3 points

Their business is in getting youngsters addicted to nicotine no matter what the delivery method. Kids should be educated in schools about why they should avoid nicotine at all costs. Health and wealth severely impacted3 points

I'm not familiar with these 'pouches' containing nicotine just as I am also not familiar with what chemicals in Chew causes so much mouth cancer among regular users but based on what I have seen or experienced with any & all products containing nicotine, none of those products are good. They ALL do their best to give the user an earlier than expected exit from this life and ALL of them seek to make money on the backs of addicts. In my mind, that's as low as humans can go in terms of treatment of fellow humans1 point

… and suddenly, Its almost been a week. I am doing good. One or two slightly difficult moments during the day, but thats pretty much it. I have a lot to be thankfull for: I am healthy, have a job, good friends and I live in freedom. I made a mantra about that, to remind myself that I have the luxury of choosing a healthy life. Its a privilege and to me its a gentle way of saying, ok, dont whine and get on with it. This positive attitude about it -> its somewhat ‘fake it untill you make it’ but it works. Focussing on what I gain and knowing that all these awkard feelings are essentially just a sign that im doing the right thing. I guess detox is over now, on to the next phase. I am excited about it, reminds me of my very first quit years ago. I am curious of the discoveries to come.1 point

Vegan Nachos - High Iron Boost So I have been having this lately because my iron levels are barely registering and I can't have iron meds because they all interact with other meds I am on.... so luckily I don't mind red meat but I love me veg too..... Ingredients: Sweet potato chips 1-1.5kg sweet potato, sliced thinly (use a mandolin if available, I use the long flat blade section on my greater) 1-1.5 tbsp sweet paprika 1-1.5 tbsp ground cumin 2 tbsp olive oil Black beans Chilli mix 2 x 400g tins cooked black beans, rinsed and drained (You can use kidney beans but black beans are higher in iron) 1 red capsicum, seeded and chopped into 1cm cubes (I think in the USA capsicum is called Bell Peppers) 1 x 400g tin chopped tomatoes 1 onion, chopped 1-2 garlic cloves, finely chopped (I use 2 decent teaspoons of the crushed stuff out of the jar) 3 tbsp olive oil 1-2 tbsp cumin (to your liking) 1-2 tbsp of sweet paprika (to your liking) Sprinkle of chilli powder to taste Guacamole 1/2 small red onion, finely chopped 1/2 bunch coriander leaves, finely chopped (I tihnk in the USA coriander is called Cilantro... I know lots of people don't like this because they are genetically adverse to it... so just substitute baby spinach leaves or kale) sea salt ( I still need to watch iodine levels so the pink Himalayan rock salt has the least iodine so I use that), freshly ground pepper ... to taste 2 ripe avocados juice of 1 lime 1 punnet cherry tomatoes, halved Method: Preheat oven to 200C°. Line 2 or more large baking trays with greaseproof paper. Place sliced sweet potato in a large bowl, toss with olive oil to coat. Add paprika and cumin, toss to coat. This is best done in 2 lots to allow for more even coating. Arrange potato pieces flat over the tray, then cook in oven for 40-60 minutes, turning halfway through (note: the chips do not crisp up entirely like a corn chip). Meanwhile, heat a frypan on medium heat, add 1 tablespoon olive oil, onion and garlic and sauté for a few minutes. Add capsicum, cook for a few minutes until soft. Add spices, stir to combine for one minute. Add a little of the chopped tomatoes, stir, then add remaining chopped tomatoes and combine. Add beans, combine and simmer, with lid on, for 30 minutes. Optional: mash the beans with a fork if you prefer a more ‘refried beans’ texture. To make the guacamole: Place chopped onion and coriander leaves in a large mortar with a generous amount of sea salt. Grind with a pestle for a few minutes until you have a rough paste. Peel, stone and halve the avocados and add to the mortar, pounding until they start to mash. Add lime juice and a good grind of pepper, fold through. Add cherry tomatoes and fold through gently. This may seem to make a large quantity, but I happily eat some of the guacamole. Leftover guacamole can be used the following day. To serve: Place sweet potato pieces on individual plates, topped with bean mix, then guacamole. Sprinkle coriander leaves over the top and add jalapeños if desired. If you want you can add sour cream and cheese but the calcium will affect your iron absorption and you wont get as much from the meal.1 point
