  6. Leap of faith my siblings both gave up smoking using a vape - they initially vaped then just cut out the nicotine over time. Whatever works for you, works for you! This is your journey and the key thing is to get started. We are all different and have different ways of getting to the same place ….

  10. Congratulations on the month long quit Sandi! Well done and hope the walking becomes less painful. Remember that pain is your body telling you that you might be over doing it. Rest is also part of the workout. Best wishes.

  12. Oh !!! Rewards can be anything ,as long as it feels like a treat, just for you,for all your hard work .. A expensive shampoo..shower gel , Magazine ,book..the list is endless,it doesnt have to be sweet things...a expensive candle .. Good to hear your still walking .

  13. An ice cold Coca~Cola! My guilty pleasure, but I don’t care. I love the stuff. LOL IDK, A reward doesn’t have to be something you ingest. A basic mani and/or pedi. Splurge and buy that great smelling shampoo you haven’t bought in awhile. Buy a book you’ve been wanting and lose yourself in it. There are so many options. Maybe something to go along with the walking?

  19. Thanks so much Gus!! I do need to reward myself but with what? I don't want to eat fattening foods since I'm trying to lose weight. Any ideas of what to reward myself? What did you reward yourself after a month?

  23. Ohhhh Wow!!!!! Thank you so much Doreen!!! It has been a month already!! Time just flies! Amazing!! Looking back, this past month, it hasn't been that bad, except for the first week to 10 days. The urges are so much less now, almost gone. Even in the morning when I used to smoke like 2-4 cigarettes in an hour and a half while having my 2 cups of coffee, I don't really get the urges anymore, and the few urges that I do get just pass after like 20 or 30 seconds. So, it's definitely much better!! As I think you know, I have started a walking regime, and I told my husband last week that the walking is much harder for me than quitting smoking, as my legs and feet still hurt a lot! But, I guess, as time goes on, it will get easier (I hope), because right now the pain is giving me no gain! LOL!!! But, I will keep plugging along! Thank you Doreen and everyone else on this forum for helping me to get through this!! You all are great people and it's a privilege to be part of this group!! Thank you so much!!!

  24. Hi Robin, Welcome! I am new here as well. I have been smoke free for over 10 days now and my story is similar to yours as this is my 2nd time quitting. The first time I quit for 6 years using Chantix and then unfortunately went back. I also had a family issue and couldn't handle the stress so I went back to smoking. But, at least we decided to quit this time. This time I did the weaning method. After I had that last cigarette I felt the same way like you, like I was giving up my best friend! Same exact thing, but it does get better as my cravings are much less this week than they were last week when I had a couple of meltdowns. The people on this forum are great! They are so understanding, sympathetic and helpful. So stick around and read a lot of the information and whenever you feel the need to vent, we are all here to help you!

  25. Hi Robin! Congrats on four days! That’s a big deal, any amount of time not smoking is a big deal. I’m a newbie too, and also quit bc of breathing problems. My oxygen would go low, and I would go to the hospital bc it felt like I couldn’t breathe. I knew I had to quit too even though I felt like I wasn’t ready. I also felt like Jillar that others “got to smoke” but for lengths of time, like Im 38, I only got to smoke for 20 yrs (lol wackadoodle). But I also had some breathing and oxygen issues when I first quit…it came and went for abt a month and now I’m totally good w breathing. I also read Allen Carr for years (lol yes literally years) and while it’s great info, it wasn’t a “magic pill” that made me instantly want to quit. It has helped others here though! I also totally felt what you described too the grief, losing a best friend, I would cry sobbing guttural sobs and also get so so angry, had some depression which I never felt before where I couldn’t even leave my couch. It does totally get better…and I’m still a newbie at 3 months. Best of luck to you gf you’re doing awesome

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
