  1. I see lots of long term quits of people whom I remember from the early days of my quit,...... Congratulations! To all the newbies, whether you are brand new to your quit or you have already crossed many milestones.......... 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, a holiday, an anniversary, that 1st cigarette of the day, the one before bed, after eating, a stressful situation, an excuse that you powered through.....whatever it may be....I hope that you are proud.....i hope that you are so excited about the strength that you possess...I hope you know what a rock star you are for committing to your quit and making it a top priority. The only way over it is through it.....you are doing it. Congratulations!!! I may not visit the board often, but I do think of the folks here (and my former board) that were such a huge part of my success. When people ask how I finally achieved my sticky quit, I always talk about how this online group educated me and supported me. Absolutely picked me up, held me up and never gave up on me. CONGRATULATIONS TO ONE AND ALL

  2. Gday, No negotiating with an urge. No arguing ….it knows the answers, it’s been teasing you for years. All you do is ignore the urge for 10 mins and it’s gone. In that way you take any power away. Try to reason with it and fight it you just give it power that it doesn’t deserve. Ignore it and next min you know it’s slithered away. You’ve taken away its power and when it returns it’s becoming a shadow of what it was. The more times it’s ignored the less hold it has remember the powers yours

  3. Thanks @beazel! The amazing people on this board and the words of their journeys are absolutely what saw me through the hellacious first months of my quit. I would not be quit today without QuitTrain. Your words of encouragement are so supportive and kind. Thank you again!

  4. I’ve read this. Many parts of it really struck me. I highlighted and bookmarked pages/sections and reread them often. Someone mentioned that they read the book but then got the audiobook and it was their “aha” moment. I think I will try that.

  15. G’day You’ll come the realise those urges come along, full of urgency, full of lies threats, hateful things. Let them try, know that in 10 mins you’ll be still here and they will not be. Next time you meet that particular urge it will not be as strong, its power is weak. It knows its hold over you is slipping and getting weaker every time you meet. I still remember that first cig of the day. Once it was all powerful and scary. Cause I met it so regularly it was one of the first to lose its power. Hang in there, don’t be fearful of urges every time you meet there powers lessen and fade.

  18. The first one is the hardest one to negotiate. Can I ask what you mean by it being the first to lose power? I often feel like if I can get passed that one I MIGHT be able to really take the plunge!

  20. It’s that first step I can’t seem to take but reading your message about taking the NOPE pledge to commit to one non smoking day makes it seem a BIT less scary!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
