Well I’m over a month in already! if there’s anybody in the early stages, or just reading around wanting to quit - the only advice I would give is to go for it! It’s hard but not impossible! Use this site -:post often and get support - you will need it! After only even a month I don’t miss smoking. I no longer constantly think about cigarettes and I’m really thankful every day that I can breathe easily…. Sign up to nope - it’s only committing you to non smoking for 1 day - if it gets terrible, you can smoke the following day - BUT you won’t want to! the people here are really what makes the difference - such a supportive group of people who have all been through the same thing!5 points

Congrats on going over a month!! That is fantastic! Yup, this group is great, they sure have been helping me! I can't wait to get to the point where I don't miss it anymore. I still miss it a bit, but it is getting easier as the time goes on.2 points

Sure, although the farther north you go the cooler things get. It’s a land of extremes. I remember July days that were nearly 90 degrees, and also February days that were 68 below zero. Never a dull moment! And yes, it was a wonderful place to grow up. I often get homesick. But I feel blessed and lucky to have come from such a special homeland.2 points

congratulations @Slow progress that first month is a monumental achievement. Give yourself a pat on the back and a big hug then get to work on that second month. You have proven that you don't need the cigarettes. Don't it feel good to be strong?1 point

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum, I joined just a few weeks ago. Is there just a regular chat, you know, like talk about anything? Today, I want to know how all of you on the East Coast of North America, (USA and Canada) are doing because there are terrible wildfires in Canada, and here in NYC, where I live, it's been really bad. About 1.30/2PM EST the sky looked orange, almost like Armageddon, but after about an hour it's like a grey color. The sun looks like it wants to come out a bit. Hopefully it will. Anyway, I hope all Canadians and Americans are doing well, hopefully the fires in Canada will end soon! Anyway, are there forums for just regular chatting, like how's the weather, I'm going on vacation, my son is graduating from high school/college, Etc. Is this the right place? If not, please tell me, because I'm looking to have a chat forum, because it keeps my mind off of smoking! Thanks!1 point

It is definitely crazy here in north jersey!! It’s visibly smoky, hazy, the sun was a weird color, and as I said in the other thread it definitely smells like a campfire (or a little like a church smell when they do the smoke thing lol). It seems post-apocalyptic and like terminators are coming out soon lol. They said the air quality is poor/“very poor” depending on where you look. I hope everyone stays safe and breathing well!! It would definitely suck for someone who smokes . Hope everyone’s well!! Watching the Vanderpump Rules reunion part three in t-minus 23 mins1 point

I sort of figured you were from Alaska, being that your Username is DenaliBlues. I've never been to Alaska, but I have watched many shows that take place there, including some that go way up to Prudhoe Bay! As of a few hours ago, it wasn't that bad!! Growing up in Alaska must have been so nice!! Does it ever get warm there, even in the end of June/beginning of July?1 point

Yeah I guess it got way down there in NC! Now it's not so bad like around 1.30/2PM...hopefully the fires will be put out1 point

@Sandi149 I can tell you that in the Raleigh, NC area, it has been a haze today. I haven't noticed it before but it looked pretty bad today and I could actually feel it was hard to breathe. I do hope things improve soon, although it still felt better than when I was smoking. The atmosphere today brought me back to when I smoked. Jillar is right, this forum, and the "Off The Record" forum (if you are adventurous) are good places for random banter. Posting about songs, movies, and playing the games always are appreciated. It helped me early on. I liked your "Songs of Yesterday" post. Your contributions are welcome here.1 point

You're in the right forum @Sandi149 for all things social, suitable for all ages I should say lol. We also have our Off the Record Forum which is for our more R rated topics like some of our jokes tend to be lol.1 point

Huge congratulations to the Jillar Energizer Bunny! You built a rock-solid quit and now just keep going and going -- always helping and encouraging all the folks who stop by looking for that extra motivation to take the smoke-free plunge. Thanks for all you do to help keep the doors open and the lights on in this train.1 point

Thanks @johnny5 for starting this thread for me. And thank you all for the kind words and congratulations. It made my day These years go by so quickly and it gives me purpose to be able to assure someone just starting their quit that they can do it. As they say, it takes a village and in our case it takes a train full to raise a quitter. There is no better group to help a person quit smoking than a group of people who have done it and know what you are going through because chances are they went through it too. Thanks again you guys, you're the best!1 point

Congratulations on 7 years quit. This is an awesome accomplishment. Thanks for helping me and everyone else navigate the bumpy road of addiction. You personally, along with Doreen and few others helped in the early stages of my quit.1 point
