  1. Congrats, Jordan!! 8 years is a huge accomplishment and some of us (me! Lol) are looking on in awe. My mom quit around 8 years ago and I’ll have to tell her what I just said here bc she should know, too. Lol. She was a 2-3 pk a day smoker who quit before her first hip surgery.

  8. Thanks much @jillar and to all for the very nice shout-outs, and thank you, @DenaliBlues, for bringing my people along! And yes, @Molly2310, in eight years you'll be where I am and that's far away but in the meantime you will get to celebrate months 1 through 12, then years 1 through 7 of your fabulous quit, so you'd better keep the champagne on ice from now on. No one could convince me of this eight years ago but at some point (different timing for us all) not smoking starts to feel more natural than smoking and it's all pretty easy from there. The only regret I'll ever have is not having quit much earlier. Cheers to all us quitters, old and new!

  13. Interesting about Covid causing phantosomia. I wonder if I've had Covid, after all. I've heard the long-Covid is rough. It's so unpredictable, or seems to be. I know people who have had Covid two and even three times. I work as a grocery store cashier a mile from a major medical center. Sick people all around me on a daily basis. More than half the staff have had it--some twice. Somehow, I've escaped, or maybe was not symptomatic enough to notice. There is a substance I've been taking since ~ 2015, N-acetylcysteine (NAC). It's an anti-inflammatory that is used in hospitals for liver inflammation and by people with asthma or other lung inflammatory processes. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, or not. It's now one of the treatments for Covid. It's an inexpensive generic, over the counter in the US. I've taken it for bipolar depression (wasn't very effective), and as a stroke-preventative (it has anti-clotting effect). Smoking reportedly causes inflammation. I've thought that, while I was smoking, maybe NAC helped reduce some of cigarettes' harm. "NAC (N-acetyl-L-cysteine) helps prevent viruses and bacteria from adhering to the lining of the lungs. Data show that NAC reduces excess airway mucus, lowers inflammation, supports pulmonary function, and inhibits infectious colonization. Scientifically reviewed by: Dr. Gary Gonzalez, MD, in May 2022."

  15. G’day My quit started with not smoking for hours. That became days and those days became weeks and months. At first I resisted making the NOPE pledge simply put….. I was afraid of embarrassing myself and smoke. I’d smoked and ruined to many quits in the past. I had to come clean with myself and fess up to being that nicotine addict. Not One Puff EVER was important for me. Things had changed quit smoking had become more important that smoking. Some things never change I’m still that addict nearly 8!years later. Difference is I don’t smoke. I look at that box. Pleas tick. Smoker? Non Smoker? I’d like to take my pen and change the Non to Not Smoker cause that’s were my heart is. Life’s good. I’m happy with my not smoking self. Chris

  24. Yes - comes and goes like once every few days. Until I read your post though I was just imagining it. Like Gus, kind of a stale smoke smell, who knew it was a thing. And I grew up in Spanaway so am familiar with and miss the pine tree scent.

  25. This happens to me sometimes. Not too often. Mine is more of a stale smoke odor. Not strong. Just a wisp. Totally mental. I would love to exchange that odor for the scent of Magnolia or Wisteria blooms.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
