  1. Sarge has been quit for 11+ years ... Mrs. Sarge for 8-ish years now. We financed all our climbing gear (approx $6,000) ... and an extra 2 to 4 week trip (Iceland and Wales this year) to exotic locations to climb mountains and glaciers world wide. Hasn't cost us a dime that smoking didn't cost. A much healthier habbit, too ... but quicker death if something goes wrong up there. EZPZ

  4. Wishing you mob a happy gravy day! Celebrate Gravy Day as it's intended, phone the one your missing and can't be with this Christmas.....drink a beer with some mates at ya local and sing the song with gusto in an impromptu drunken pub choir.

  6. It's entirely possible. I guided between 1991 and 1997. Worked at Cherokee Rafting for a couple of years then went to work for NOC. If you heard a lecture from your guide about the glories of taking the hero route as opposed to the chicken route or remember the phrase "Hold on to your T-grip like it holds the cure for all that ails you."...That was probably me. None of us got rich guiding rafts, but it's unlikely that anyone had more fun at work than we did.

  10. There are significant advantages to quitting over the holidays. For instance, when catching up with the relatives you can mention that you've kicked the habit. Lot's of congrats and well wishes will come your way. That's positive reinforcement, baby! Take it for all its worth. Likewise you don't have to figure out your New Year's resolution. Nope, you got that one covered. "Maintain the quit!" or N.O.P.E.! should be your first and fiercest of resolutions. While the holidays have their own list of stressors you can usually stay busy and stay social. These are positives to keeping your quit. When you have time on your hands and/or all alone is when the will to maintain the quit is most vulnerable. Your Christmas Quit will be greatest gift you will ever give yourself.

  11. I'm a dedicated river rat. Started off with whitewater kayaking. Made the decision to make the move to canoes instead of kayaks after one particularly close call on Big Soddy Creek. Worked as a raft guide on the Ocoee and Nantahala rivers during my younger days. Haven't been doing as much whitewater running over the last couple of years. Now that I'm a full-fledged adult with responsibilities, I can't just drop everything for a couple of days chasing rain and flood stage creeks all over the South like I used to. I still get in plenty of time on the water though. I've been doing a lot of fishing lately. Mostly freshwater fly fishing, but I'll break out a spinning reel from time-to-time and fish anything from the Tennessee River down to small farm ponds. We're looking at making another trip down to Florida next year...get into some saltwater action.

  12. I used to play baseball, even tried Umpire younger kids....the thing about being the Umpire I did not like, everyone was always yelling at you...that was a strike, he was safe...on and on. Got tired of all the arguing/yelling and even some parents fighting lol.

  13. G’day When I gave the burners away I could walk into a store with a $20 note and buy a packet. Now I’m told you need a fifty dollar note to buy a packet. Thats mind blowing. Im not a rich man but comfortable…. How can the unemployed or poor afford to smoke?

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
