  2. Still here - slept well last night. Fighting my junkie brain a bit more today. But I'm okay - I'm looking at it like when I was on a particularly long backpack or even hard day hike. Buckle down, on step at a time.

  10. I know I can do this again, but for some reason this time seems to be harder than ever. Not sure why??? But I know I have to get it done this time. Maybe the disappointment in myself for giving up what I struggled to get.So I hope all the newbies can learn from my mistake!!!

  11. I’m glad you are on the Train, still sharing and staying connected and staying determined, @Linda. Your voice of experience is helping me ( and others, I’m sure) fight stinkin thinkin… the illusion that smoking again will make us somehow feel better. So thanks for you. It’s not hard because you’re weak. It’s hard because nicotine messes with our brain chemistry and is an emotional as well as physical addiction. I know that when I lost a really long quit once, my addiction came back with a fury - twice as strong as before, like it was determined to win. I let it boss me, for a very long time. But you’re standing up to it! Sometimes I think we are meaner to ourselves than we would ever be to another human. If you were supporting a friend who had relapsed, what would you be telling her?

  15. i used sleep hypnosis, deep breathing techniques, cold showers, EFT, if it was mentioned as an aid to stay quit I used it...except for NRT. In the end it's all just different ways to ride out the storm. and it all works to pass time and time is what you need. the longer you don't smoke the longer you won't smoke.

  17. When you finish the course of NRT...you still have to go cold turkey ....it's like taking a band aid of very slow . Much quicker to just rip it off and get that sting over with ... Some folks have tried sleep hypnosis on you tube ....it's just a thought ... Me personally I rode it out ...and just excepted it was all a part of the healing process ... One day this will be all behind you.....

  18. @FunkyMonkey, insomnia and sleep disruptions are normal in the early days. It'll get better. Also don't sleep with an NRT on. I used an OTC sleep aid here and there to get my system back on track.

  20. Not the best night last - but I'm still here. I don't think I am using the NRT correctly so I am going to save it for "emergency craves" and stick the rest out CT. I'm pretty sure I was CT without knowing it. Anyway - not insomnia so much as frequently waking (I could fall back asleep quickly) and waking up every hour or 2 to use the bathroom. And I was hot - had 2 fans blowing on me. Oh yeah and I woke up starving. The brain fog seems a little better.

  21. The truth is I had more anxiety the past 2 weeks (and anytime I contemplated quitting) than I've had in the past 24 hours. It's not a piece of cake (mmmm cake), wait what was I saying.... don't I have a spice cake recipe somewhere??? *wanders off* Our brains can sometimes be our worst enemy ... Well done ....upwards and onwards ..

  24. I'm going to use this thread as a journal of sorts. Just went through the 2 hour zoinkies. All of you know that fidgety, irritated, distractedness that hits at the 2 hour mark when you were in a meeting, on a flight or some other place that was no-smoking. Blech - did 10 table push-ups (thanks @DenaliBlues) strangled my fidget stretch caterpillar doohickey, ate a granola bar. I have tools and I'm not afraid to use them! I picked today as my quit day because I was the only one at the office this morning and remote working from Noon today until 8:30am next Wednesday. I can remote work next Wednesday & Thursday (my office days) if I need to. I am very fortunate with that flexibility - I know not everyone has it. I picked an afternoon quit time because I want to have 16 or so hours under my belt before I get up tomorrow. I also picked a Thursday in case day 2-4 are royally sucky, I can stay in bed or basically do whatever I want (that doesn't involve sticking anything in mouth and lighting it on fire). We do have plans on Saturday but my husband will still go and enjoy himself if I back out with a case of the "drama queens" (thanks @El Bandito I love that phrase). Oh look at that I just used a 1/2 hour posting this reply. I went out this week and bought party favor bags and filled them with little treats and gadgets for myself as rewards. I figure I deserve to be nice to myself finally!

  25. I have just opened my 1 hour present to myself - a magnetic memory game. I got the idea from someone on here who played a memory game on their phone but I wanted something that would keep my hands busy and I could travel with (without relying on cell reception or batteries being charged). Yay Me

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
