  5. Sorry to worry anyone. My son, girlfriend, daughter, and SIL were in town for over a week. Turned off my quit site so no one could see the site on the computer (remember son and daughter don't know I smoked). Having so many people around all the time definitely helped control the cravings. Just like with having my wife keep my keys hidden, it really helps control the urges knowing if I smoked, I would come home and people would be able to tell I was smoking. I'm 2 days past my longest period of not smoking. Hurray. Still having memories and triggers though.

  7. Congratulations @DenaliBlues. I just hit my 2 months as well. I would like to say it’s been easy, but not the case, always. Seems to get harder for me each day. Hoping that will change in time. Anyway, this is not about me, this is about you and you are doing great. Keep up the good work.

  11. @Boo Jackson will be right on time when he arrives. I missed that with my kids as both of them were scheduled C sections due to the then Mrs. yoda being unable to survive labor. I'm nervous and excited for you. Sending some positive vibes out to you and Mrs. Boo, or Sugar Britches I believe is what you refer to her as. I was blathering something over on my thread about living a rad life but I believe you are doing the radest thing ever. Best wishes Papa Boo.

  22. Can't offer up any information on the elections down under. As for the other big announcement...Mister Jackson has not made his big debut yet. We are in the the 39th week. The boy is at full-term. If Jackson does not make his grand entrance by this time next week, the good doctor has said she will consider inducing labor. So, to answer the question "what are you doing right now?" Pacing....lots of pacing.

  23. Thanks. Oddly enough, Sugar Britches is calmer than I am right now. And she's the one doing all the heavy lifting. Shout out to my mom and dad and for that matter, all parents everywhere. Pregnancy and childbirth is the most intensely emotional thing I've ever experienced.

  32. I’m sorry to hear about your week @intoxicated yoda. It’s difficult to metabolize loss and to know what we want or need during those times. Try to be kind to yourself while you are coping. As for me, I’m lying on the couch tonight with a snoring cat on my lap and am pretty much unable to move because I busted my butt this afternoon. A big storm broke a bunch of trees in our yard – sad to see all the damage. Today was about revving up the chain saw, bucking up firewood, and bundling all the small stuff for the county to haul away for mulch. A job well done, but I’m so bleeping sore that it’s going to take me a couple of tries to roll off the couch and lurch to bed. I think even my hair hurts. This is all the adrenalin I need, thanks – no skydiving required. I totally relate to the idea that nicotine hijacks the brain’s reward centers. Mine are totally screwed up, and yes sometimes the thought of smoking looms large. A different recovery program I once participated in promised that the family problem would eventually “lose its power to dominate our thoughts and our lives.” I’m hopeful that the same will become true of smoking. In the meantime, I’m wishing you ease. Take good care.

  33. @intoxicated yoda, I'm so sorry for what sounds like the death of someone dear to you. Its always so hard. I thought about smoking too when my mom died back in 2019 so I can relate. The thing I can tell you is its ok to THINK about smoking as long as we don't ACT on it.

  36. Cleaning up from our big kitchen project of tiling. I said I would post a finished picture. Boy was this a job. We had painted the kitchen cabinets and got new countertops. It was hard enough picking a tile because the counter tops seemed so busy in color. We have been here 32 years and definitely needed a redo.

  37. Congratulations, @Sunnyside. Three months is one of the big ones to achieve. And is that you in the photo? With a real shark? You scuba? You'll be able to hold your breath ever so much longer under water now, as a nonsmoker, in case a shark decides to take a chomp out of your shiny air tank. God-forbid. Holy crow, that's a big shark. So many teeth. My palms are sweating, just looking at it and thinking about it. Anyway, congratulations on 3 months!

  40. You're doing great @JustinHoot99. You're going to have memories and triggers for a while. We smoked for a lot of years making a lot of triggers to get past. Just keep reminding yourself that you got past that last one and can get through the next one

  41. here is something to consider...plants cannot move so to protect themselves they produce toxins that are harmful to the animals that ingest them. The nicotine in the tobacco plant is actually a pesticide that the tobacco creates to kill the animals that would eat or in this case smoke it. so the next time you have a crave for a cigarette just remember that is the tobacco plant trying to kill you. create a picture in your mind with that theme and see if it helps take the edge off of those craves. ditto that for caffeine

  42. Just stay positive Justin ....Don't lose sight of the prize .... I didn't enter No Man's Land ...I was so happy to keep hold of my two feet that were in jeporady.... Every day was a bonus to me ....no negative thoughts...

  43. You are doing great, Justin. No Man's Land is different for everyone and some really don't get hit that bad. It is the feeling of accomplishment from beating early craves and keeping the quit may seem a bit old and not exciting. This is the time you need to stay vigilant, though, and keep posting if needed. You are slowly starting to adjust to life as a non-smoker and that is great thing. Great job!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
