  2. Looking for news about Hank the Tank. If you don't already know, Hank the Tank is a black bear that lives near Lake Tahoe, California. He found himself in a bit of trouble when it was believed that he was breaking into homes to steal food. The last I heard, Hank had been cleared in some of the break-ins as it was found that some of the bears breaking and entering were females. Hank took the rap because he's a fat boy and likes to eat. I know there are a lot of other news stories out there right now, but I wish someone would do a follow-up on Hank. Godspeed Hank the Tank, wherever you may be.

  6. I really took the reward concept to heart...in the beginning of my quit it was small things every week. Rewarded myself every week for the first year! Then I started saving up for bigger things...and this month I just purchased a 10 x 12 shed and will install a potting table along one wall (w help from the bf!) for my gardening tasks. It should arrive at the end of March...just in time for planting season. I have so many add'l plans for my "She Shed"...can hardly wait!

  7. I'm an engineer. My wife says engineers are weird. Probably some truth to that. When we got married, the preacher required you have one counseling discussion w/ her before she would marry you. One of the questions she asked was "How likely do you think it is your marriage will last". I answered "50/50". She was surprised and asked why 50/50. I said "because statistically, 50% of marriages end in divorce". She probably thought I was weird too. lol But my marriage has lasted over 35 years.

  8. Colleen Quit Date: 6/2/13 Posted June 16, 2015 How do you reward yourself for not smoking? It's okay to spend some of that money you saved from not smoking. In the very beginning of my quit, I rewarded myself quite a bit because it was important to me. Nothing extravagant really. When I hit a year quit, I purchased a pair of spin shoes. Two years quit now, my how time flies. I have a Jawbone UP and have had to send it back more than once. They send a new one, no questions asked over and over. Guess they are having problems lol. Have been really getting tired of it all and had been thinking about upgrading. So, I order online my two year reward this morning and it already arrived somehow tonight, a Garmin Vivosmart and a HRM. 18. Being in the car is not really a problem. It's having access to the car when my wife is away that is the problem. For instance, if my wife was going to my daughters for the weekend (4hrs away), I would have her hide the keys. When she is home, I do not worry because I know she will smell me when I get home. My mind is a mess. I kept my car keys over the weekend. I used it 5 times, but everything in my little town is only 5-10min away, so no long drives. I drove to the park 3 times and hiked, also to a movie. Then I turned my keys in for her to hide Sun nite. Next Friday, I get them back for the weekend. Going to do that for about 4 wks. Or the rest of my life. Whatever it takes.

  20. Today I made my first purchase as an ex-smoker, I got a new purse. It is special to me because I could choose the purse that is too small to fit in a pack of cigarettes.

  21. In another month (April) I will be able to purchase a new recliner for my living room with money I have saved this month so far. And with money saved next month I will be able to get the 500 dollar recliner on sale for 350 dollars. Feels so good to actually not be broke before the end of the month.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
