  1. You are not alone, as I sit here in my pajamas for the third day. Have not washed my hair, just another deterrent to prevent a rash decision. Switch to plastic cups and paper plates, much better than sweeping up broken glass. Always have tissues at the ready. I have done it all, I will keep doing it and any other silly thing that comes to mind. I am only going to quit one time. I do not want to have to start over, I will not go thru this again!

  3. Funny, out of the blue. The stressful weeks of my daughter and her family moving to Texas are past. I'm finally rid of the piles of bags and boxes of their discards that I'd simply dumped in my home, lining the walls and furniture, until I could sort them for donation or the dump. Got rid of the last of it. Then I planted a small flower garden, and the daffodils are coming into bloom. Three days of tranquility. I awakened this morning in the middle of dreaming that I'd smoked. I was bewildered because I had no desire to smoke, didn't want to smoke, and I'd ruined my almost-two year quit. I'd have to reset my ticker, confess to the QT friends, and start over. Quelle nightmare! I don't remember if I had thoughts to smoke during the stress of my daughter's move or not. Certainly I didn't after I'd restored the peace and quiet of my own home. The mind is quirky, yes? Have a great day, everyone.

  4. You are doing great @SunshineI know it doesn't feel that way at the moment, just take it day by day and the day will come when you don't think about smoking at all. Stay in those pajamas.

  5. Vent all you need to, that helped me tons! Hope your hand feels better. I get those terrible bruises with even the slightest hit to my arms. Staying close to home is also what I did in the early days, I just didn't trust myself! Looks like you're doing everything needed to make this your forever quit

  6. This is why we say quitting smoking is a journey ... I didn't know how to be a a adult without smoking ....every time I did a task I would have my fix .... Once I quit ...the more I did these tasks the easier it got .... Before long I was doing them without even thinking of a cigerette..... It will happen ...you must have to travel along until it does ...everyone is different ....but eventually it happens .

  7. Kdad, one of the best pieces of advice I picked up on this forum early on was: "Take smoking off the table." Simple enough and it has worked every time it has been tried. Smoking is not an option for a non-smoker. Eliminate the option and you can eliminate the internal bargaining. The list of things you can do is infinite. There is just the one thing you can't do, which is smoke a cigarette.

  8. @KdadIn my experience, the more times I "tried" to quit, the harder it was. Just hang in there because its never going to get any easier to quit. But it will get easier...

  13. Not a good day. It started out shall I say decent. Kept myself busy by doing laundry. Of course wanted one during the whole ordeal. Clumsy as all get go. Banged my hand against a closet door and have a bruise that's all purple and sore. Let's not forget the dropsies. Can't seem to hold on to a darn thing. Cigarettes are a constant on my mind. Oh a few tears along the way too. Nothing like a pity party to move the friggin day along. As this day (well disaster) moves along I dare not get out of my pajamas as I need not get dressed for fear of going out to get them. Have read I think it was my cigarette my friend. That and Doreen's post to me saying we have to learn to be adults all over again was my only smile for the day. And Doreen you are so right. Must learn everything all over again. I should be a bit happy as I am now nicotine free. Three days and moving forward. Not ever going through this again. This is not an SOS just a vent. Now I feel better. Dinner then a nice shower and laying down to watch tv. Be back later as long as I stay away from closet doors.

  15. You can do it Kdad....go have a shower / bath ...you carnt smoke there .. Like Allen Carr said ....How do you know know which cigerette has that red button .... There is no choice then ...Game over !!!!!!

  16. @kdad find something else to do. Keep yourself occupied. It will pass, but if you start giving that thought head space it will get worst. Say NO and mean it. Keep posting here if that keeps you accountable until this passes, and it will.

  17. The thing I know from recovery is that the more we share our experience, the more we help others. So @Sunshine, you being here and getting real with the journey helps me and everyone else on the QT. It also helps those who haven't joined but are reading. When it gets tough, just post. Everyone is cheering for you!

  24. I think we just have to expect the first couple of months are going to be rough. But the more we practice patience for ourselves, do the next right thing in terms of self care, we will find that it gets easier and easier. Hang in!

  25. I think I once referred myself as a toddler who has had thier dummy taken away .... As I was told....and it's true ...No matter what we are going through .... It's all temporary....you have to go through it ...to win ... Then you look back and realize ,it wasn't that bad ...our brains and over thinking made it worse ... Your doing great ....what you are achieving is amazing ....feel proud ..

  27. Thanks Kel. Your words of encouragement help me alot. So glad to have you here also. Just finished up some laundry and am sure you know the drill. Put clothes in washer, sit and smoke etc. Well not today. Trying to work through these do it without a cigarette moments. It did bother me but as all the advanced quitters tell us reprogram and fight the urges. This sure is a work in progress. But I so look forward to the day we can look back and know that it was all so worth the effort

  28. @KdadYou can do this!!!! You need to find something to keep yourself busy. The crave will pass. Think about the money you are wasting buy them and throwing them away. I went through that also and I remember how crazy I felt doing that. You and only you can do this. Were here to help and support you. So believe in yourself!!

  32. Good news Sunshine: those of us on the more impatient side can successfully quit smoking...A fact that I am quite thankful for. In fact, the process of quitting taught me some valuable lessons about patience and delayed gratification. The process will reward you many times over when you stay the course.

  34. It certainly has been a long and winding road for me on this quitting journey. I am definitely in a much better place now...both physically and mentally. I still remember those early days of my quit and how I thought "Will I ever get to a place where I am not constantly fighting the craves?". It was so exhausting but I kept trudging forward, ever so slowly! I am still here to let you know you eventually will get to that place and it will be a source of immense pride!! I truly think I couldn't have done it without the online support of a site like QuitTrain or QSMB (my first support group which is no longer around). Thanks for acknowledging my 5 yr (!!!!!!!) milestone, Rozuki the Rockstar

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
