  9. Thank you, Kris. I am new here and I have just quit today. Tomorrow will be my first full day as a non-smoker. I do have a very strong support system but I wanted to have more support so I am not leaning too much on loved ones. This group is exactly what I am looking for

  12. After reading here for quite awhile I decided today is the day. Been a smoker forever it seems. Many failed attempts. So determined to make this the last time I smoke. Removed all smoking paraphernalia and said to myself this is it. Reading here has been a big deciding factor. So much information and support. Just reading so many successful stories has given me the stamina and resolve to just say no. I realize I need the support and knowledge from this community to move forward. I want this so bad. Something is different with this decision. It's as if I really want it this time. I am so happy to have a place to come and share all the ups and downs coming my way. I am determined to never smoke again. Thanks for listening and for any support along the way. Going cold turkey.

  15. Welcome @Sunshine and congratulations on our decision to quit. You are doing a great thing in putting cigarettes behind you. The last few years that I was a smoker I made numerous failed attempts as well so I can relate to your experience there. What really helped for me was joining a quit forum like this. There is a lot of education and support you can get here. Understanding nicotine addiction and having the support of others really does help. There are many ways to quit but I also quit cold turkey. Along with this forum, I would recommend reading Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking." I would not say that this book makes quitting easy but it does put smoking into a different perspective, especially for a cold turkey quitter. The main thing I took from the book is that smoking really does nothing positive for you. It is all negative. Once you realize that there are no positives to smoking, it does make quitting a bit easier. You may struggle early on but if you feel the urge to smoke and can't shake it, start a post in the SOS Board part of the site and wait for some help to keep you from lighting up. Also, pledge in the NOPE (Not One Puff Ever) thread daily. It does help. Welcome again, it is good to have you here.

  20. Thanks for the feedback. I have read Alan Carr and did take alot from it. My attitude has changed with my decision. I seem to be happy and excited to begin this journey. Before it was always a feeling of doom and gloom. The book is very helpful. I even smiled today as I said to myself...I am a non smoker. I know from past experience this is not easy and there will be plenty of rough patches but I am not going to cave. Reading others experiences and following their journeys has motivated me. I am going to do this.

  24. All of the reasons you provide are excuses we told ourselves to keep smoking. I know I told a lot of them to myself. You are right about them being debunked or downright false but I know it is hard seeing that in the early days. You are right, it is better to stay quit. Over a period of time of being smoke free, you will see how false these reasons to continue smoking really are.

  25. @jillarThanks for the bump. I had not ever read this post. It is so true, I do feel empty and lost now that I am a nonsmoker. I am on the path and I have the map that so many have shared here. I know the way, just keep walking forward.

  26. @Kdad, you don't know how many times I have wanted to go do that! Guess what, I have not done it. It always passes, you have not died by NOT smoking. It has been uncomfortable, has made you anxious and more, you will handle Monday when it gets here. Just know what you are doing here is not only for your health but for your family's security. Would you be so willing to give them up, NO, they need you to STAY STRONG. That may the thing to do, look at them and realize they are the most important thing not cigarettes.

  28. @johnny5 is right @Kdad worry just about today by Monday you will be that much stronger. The crave is temporary, you know as you know so distract yourself until it passes. Have you tried my JAC(jillars air cigarette)? It worked great at tricking my mind into thinking it was getting the real thing. Maybe it'll help you too...

  29. Yes, buying a pack and starting again may be easy but quitting again will be really hard. Fight the urge, it will go away. Don't worry about Monday, worry about today and making it through this crave. Not giving in will be a huge victory that you can build this quit on. Keep the quit, you will not regret it. You will regret smoking again, though. You can do this, Kdad. Don't smoke.

  30. Are you freakin nuts? You got more red "didn't smoke" X's than anytime since your 20's and you are thinking of blowing it? Is there a gun to your head, are you being water boarded, being tortured in any way? If not, I suggest you think this though. Think about the $4000 that one cigarette will cost and the 7000 you will be required to smoke cause you know you have never summoned the courage and strength to try again in less than 1 year.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
