  10. @GusYou are sweet and I am grateful for you too! I have to keep reminding myself that it takes what it takes. I am (WE ARE) so lucky to be here today. I get caught up in my everyday BS (can anyone relate?) and I keep forgetting that it is a MIRACLE I am not smoking today. And it is a MIRACLE that I have not had to smoke for 128 days. This is the longest I have gone without nicotine (in any form) since 1999. I don't really crave it anymore but I am super mindful of the danger my crappy thinking can get me into. Done it enough times over my smoking history and, as we know, this elevator only going one way (DOWN).

  11. I’m also grateful for QT and those on board! I’m grateful that so many over the years have documented so much or even just a little of their quit experience for others to read and know that they are not alone in what they are going through but also that they can survive it! @KEL you have been such a blessing to me since day one of your journey on this train. So I’m thankful for you also!

  12. @Kdad I am not going to speak of your pain or your struggle. I do not know the depth of your hurt or anguish. What I do know is you want to quit smoking. That could be for health problems, that you want to have a future with your loved ones. Whatever the reasons are to you, they mean something to you. You are the one that has to dig deep and decide what you are going to do. Once you have done that you will give yourself permission to know that you deserve this, that you have value to your family, friends and all those in your life. You deserve to go thru everyday feeling good physically and mentally. I know it is hard, it is hard for all of us. We are just as addicted to a bad thing as the homeless on the street. We try to pretend otherwise but we know deep down they are struggling thru life just like us with our own problems and addictions. We all come to a point that we have to decide the direction our lives should take. You are there and you know the answers, now you just have to stay strong. Save yourself, you are young with so much in front of you, don't waste time, make it count!!

  13. Sorry @Kdad. The withdrawal from nicotine is the worst. It is necessary though. Please do whatever you have to do to keep from smoking. You’ve done so well just by reaching out for support. That shows you really want to be done with nicotine controlling every aspect of your life. I hope that you stick close. Reading as much as possible on this site helps so much. Drink plenty of cold water and cranberry juice. Also, take off out the door and make a couple of laps around the yard, down the street and back. It helps. It really does!

  14. Welcome back, @Kdad You can do this. Life without cigarettes is so much better than life being controlled by nicotine. I've seen you here many times before which means you really know you need to quit. Read our posts in the quit smoking section of our site, check out @KEL's link to "Voices of Nicotine Recovery".....I never saw that site before but I'm sure it could help. Also, if you haven't, check out Allen Carr's book "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking" which is available both in print and online. You need to quit, Kdad, and I hope you can get that support here but check out other resources also.

  15. It looks like you have been here before @Kdad, maybe a few times? Like all of us? I am attending on line support meetings (Nicotine Anonymous). You may find the fellowship helpful. I certainly am and if I needed any impetus to quit, its understanding that it doesn't get any easier and becomes seriously fatal. Here's the link: http://www.voicesofnicotinerecovery.com. Hope to see you there.

  18. So many celebrations of smo-briety today, especially @AceWhite and a 1-year quit! I needed the positivity. Was in an online meeting this morning (NicA). Started out with lots of laughter and hope. Then three people in desperate straights spoke, one right after the other. All headed (shortly) for death as a result of this f-cking addiction. Only thing we all could do was pray for peace and ease on their journey. All three still smoking with end-stage diagnoses. As heavy as this is, as sad as I feel for fellow sufferers, I am very grateful to be a witness to this horror, so very grateful to everyone on the QT, and so very grateful I have my seat today.

  19. I'm grateful I found support from other quitters too @KEL and I'm not sure I would be quit today otherwise. It is sad watching people with health conditions related to smoking continue smoking. I'm on a COPD forum and can't tell you the number of people there still smoking. Many of them on oxygen. I of course tell them about the qt in hopes that they find their way to freedom but for many it just won't be....... I'm glad you are here and firmly in your seat

  21. G’day Ebonys 3 years old and came to us through a friend. She had a few setbacks in life. Her owners brother moved out of home and took his dog with him. So she lost her dog companion. Then her owner left home and couldn’t take her. She was left with the parents who are never home and work different shifts. Her yard wasn’t secure so she was tied up for various times day and night. She became more and more anxious with the changes and lack of routine. They are good folks. Kind but couldn’t give her what she needed a pack of her own. Well she’s now got us two and my neighbour who will have her at the drop of a hat. She loves the yard and the doors always open so she comes and goes as she please. There’s been a lot of visits inside to check your still there though. She checks out the chickens , swears at the mailman, jumps in the fish pond, digs holes and generally doing the cool dog stuff. She is off the calming meds. We might have some problems but we’ll work that out as we go. Meanwhile it’s cool to have a dog again that just loves hanging out with you Chris PS Toby jo looks a lot like our summer did. She was a silky Shizu cross and passed last year she was 16. We knew a dog would find us they always do

  22. @Kdadyou can do this. just take it one step at a time. each step maybe a day or and hour or a minute, just take that next step and don't light up. as cliche as it sounds, you really find out how strong you are when you feel you are at your weakest.

  23. @KdadWelcome and congratulations! It is hard until it isn't. It stays hard as long as we keep using nicotine. Once you get through the withdrawal, life takes on a different glow. In terms of help, read everything on the site. Drink lots and lots of water. Distract yourself mentally by doing whatever it is that you can to occupy yourself. I worked out a lot, cleaned and stuck close to the QT. I made flashcards to remind myself of why I was quitting and to remind myself all I was giving up was an early death. Keep reaching out and, whatever you do, do not smoke. That just starts the whole darn thing all over again. Karen

  32. @jillarThank you for sharing that. I suppose I am a bit naive. I remember my grandad had a hole in his neck, likely from smoking. But I was only 9 at the time. In my AA meetings over the years, I don't meet end-stage alcoholics as they are usually pickled in the brain. So it is a shock for me to really get what this disease does. Sorry-its just a visceral yuck with a side of sorrow. Blessings to everyone no matter where they are on their quit journey.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
